CRNA vs Med School?

Hi, everyone.

I just started my last year of nursing school, and over the summer, I was researching where and in what field I wanted to continue my education. I am currently in an ADN program where I will graduate in May. I have worked on my BSN classes already, which puts me at graduating with my BSN in December of next year (2016.)

I have been struggling with picking between becoming a CRNA or just going straight to med school to become an anesthesiologist. I know that either way, I would really, really love to be an anesthesiologist some day, but the question is, should I get my masters in nursing and then med school, or just go straight to med school, if I can get in?

Some of you might wonder why I'm fixed on anesthesia, but that is because I've always been fascinated with it. I had surgery twice when I was young, and that's what sparked my interest with medicine, specifically anesthesia. Even during my surgical observation, I was more intrigued by the anesthesia team more than the surgeon or the OR nurses. So the motivation is definitely there, but I just can't decide where to put it to use.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't waste time or money on a Master's if you're intending on going to med school.

If you want to be a physician, don't waste any further time or effort on nursing; focus on getting into med school. Best wishes!

I would skip nursing school all together and go straight to med school. Plus within the next few years CRNA programs will no longer be 2 and half year programs, they will be 4 year doctorate programs.
