Critical Care Nurse Internship: Any advice/ Suggestions?

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello everyone.

I am currently a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania, I have been practicing in a Med-Surg unit for two years. I am now looking to transition to Critical Care Nursing. I have not been successful here in PA so I am willing to relocate to any other states that has critical care nursing position at entry level. (Any suggestions/recommendations please)

In January 2014, I applied for a critical care internship at Florida Hospital. Unfortunately I was not selected and I assumed its was because my Florida License was still pending. Last month I checked the website and they had more openings, even now as I speak they are still accepting applications. Now that I hold a Florida License I decided to reapply but my profile would say "no longer considered for this position"

Has anybody ever experienced this? I never got even an interview. Based on their requirements I qualify. But it seems like I can no longer apply to that position even though they are still taking application.

@koku were those openings part on the GN program? I know for those programs they pick new grads with less then 6mo or 1 yr exp (i cant rememeber which?) so that might be why but if not I know that for critical care internships they hire from within so maybe they filled up? I would suggest applying for ICU positions at other hospitals as well even if they say ICU experienced preferred, you never know! I know new grads that have been hired into these positions and you have experience so persistence is key! good luck! :)

The internship at Florida hospital is for Experienced nurses with a desire to transition to Critical Care Nursing. On their website there still taking applications!!!

Thanks you so much mo16 for your helpful response and advice. I really appreciate it. I will keep on trying :)

Specializes in Emergency.

The other day, I saw a posting on baycares site, taking apps for a critical care internship for experienced nurses. They are in Tampa.

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.

Are you set on living in Florida? Large inner city teaching hospitals all over the east coast are hurting for critical care nurses. Baltimore would be fairly close to where you live, or New York. My friend who works in Baltimore tells me that Hopkins is looking for Med/Surg nurses to train to critical care.

Thank you so much everyone for your great advises and suggestions. I am willing to relocate anywhere, I have no kids and not in a relationship so am free to relocate anywhere.

Thank you so much everyone I will keep on trying and applying everywhere. I did apply to Baycare as well :)

Keeping my fingers crossed and trusting in God.
