criminal background

Please help. I was arrested a few years ago for petty theft. The judge agreed it was an honest mistake (long story) and reduced my sentence to an infarction. Still, I have a criminal background now. I am an LVN and am trying to get my RN through Excelsior. I just have Micro and the CPNE to go. Anyone else out there with anything similar to my situation or know of someone who went through this? I feel like all my work has been flushed down the toilet. Please advise. Emily:o :uhoh21:

If you do a search on this website, you will see many who have had this in their past as well. You will need to report this to the BON before you can receive licensure as RN. Now, just because you have this in your past does not mean your career is over. The BON weighs each issue individually and decides collectively as a board. Just be honest and I'll just bet you do fine.

Good luck.

Siri is correct. Just be honest with the board. You will need to write a letter to the board explaining your mistake and how it won't happen again.

i was convicted of domestic battery three months before i started my master's entry program. i am in illinois and don't know if it differs, but here, i can lisenced, hower, i will be put on an immediate probation period. can you get it expunged?

i know the feeling of your whole life flushing down the toilet. my backround is now becoming a probelm in clinicals, and i am only half way throught the program. and i can't finish the program unless i do the clinicals.

If by being reduced to an infraction, you mean it was reduced to a misdemenor, you should be OK. Like the others said, be upfront by telling the BON and impress upon them that it is not indicative of the type of person you are.
