You need BLS for every healthcare job.

You will need a current BLS (CPR) card to take the PALS course.
And, you need to take the PALS course if you are working in that department.

You should take ACLS also unless you are working in NICU or nursery.
ok so I need BLS so I should take the class saturday...then I will have to take PALS...and if I want ACLS? what is the difference between all these? lol I mean... the BLS class on saturday is from 9am till 330pm...what could possibly take that long?? Sorry just venting lol
BLS will be mandatory regardless. To take PALS you are required to have proof of BLS. I suggest you take PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support). This will be very valuable because you will be working with peds. It is probably required at your facility anyway.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) is for adults, true, but, you may have adults on your unit and some pedi patients are more adult than pedi. You really need this as well.
Take BLS first and then PALS. ACLS can come later.
Good luck.

A BLS renewal should not take that long -- it is usually just half a day (9-12 most times) and, myself, I would wait until you find a position. BLS is required for anyone working in the healthcare setting and has been part of the orientation program of every single facility I have ever worked in. It might save you some time in orientation if you already had your BLS, but if the hospital certifies you (and many of them will recertify all new hires, regardless), you will not have to pay for the course yourself.
I would not get PALS or ACLS on my own either. Your facility will provide you with any certifications you need to work in the area you would be working in. I'm not sure that I agree that you need ACLS if working on a peds unit. Children do not code for the same reasons that adults do - in the absence of congenital heart problems, a pediatric code is usually respiratory in origin, where an adult code usually stems from a cardiac problem.

ok I am kinda nervous saying that I do not have a cpr certification during an interview.....I have one on thursday for st. christophers and I don't now...I def will not get pals but I am still thinking about the BLS lol....has anyone heard anything about the online courses? I found one for 25 bucks...and I don't even have to do the skills part I answer questions and then identify stuff or something....I was thinking about that, that way I wouldn't be wasting money...but something seems so fishy about that lol...and the online course for the aha you have to still go in and do a skills assessment and you have to pay the full price for the class plus the online fee so its not really worth it lol .. sorry just confused and don't feel like sitting for 10 hours lol
