CPNRE Sept 14, 2011

Published

I am looking for students who will be graduating this summer and writing in Sept, 2011.

I live north of Toronto, but can participate online in a group or would like to join study groups who are also preparing to write in Sept.

In our examination room. Only 1 person finished after 2 and a half hours of taking the test. The rest submitted their papers after 3 hours. Everyone said it was difficult.:grn::grn::

I just hope every single one of us here will receive good news after 4 weeks.:anpom:

I assume you wrote in TO as well? How many exam rooms were there in TO? I wrote in hamilton and there were two rooms. Did you personally think the exam was difficult? I understand some are more confusing than others, but some questions were not that hard either.

Hi I also took the exam last week...OMG the wait will kill me!! I wish I knew what the pass cut off was..I have heard many different things about how the exam is marked...I really hope I passed I can not stand not knowing..I felt awful after writing and I was sure I failed..as each day passes I hope for better results.

Oh good, im not the only one getting anxiety. I hope we all pass!! Anyone write in London?

I wrote in Windsor

I took the exam in January and the results came just under 4 weeks later.

From what everyone has told me, a thin envelope with the results means you PASSED! A thick envelope means you failed (because it has the re-write info)

This exam is based on a curve. There is no pass or fail grade. This is beneficial to you because you are being tested as a group (Canada wide), not as an individual so-to-speak. It really is mainly all common sense.

There are also always "test" questions that are not graded against you. They are tested to see what the curriculum encompasses.

Again, review each question and if two answers seem "right" go with the answer provided that has the SAFEST measure included.

The exam is not based on a bell curve anymore. The folks that make the exam pick the percentage you are to have to pass before we ever write. God only knows if that percentage is 30% or 90%. I'm hoping its around 70%.

@made - I am curious where you received your information. I am not doubting it necessarily, just surprised is all.

This link will tell you all you ever need to know about the exam and the marking. And NO Bell Curve is involved.

How is the pass mark for the examination set?

The pass mark is set in reference to the content and the difficulty of the test questions. The pass mark is NOT set using a norm-referenced approach such as “bell curving”. The pass mark is set by a panel of content experts from across Canada. These content experts work closely with entry-level practical nurses, and include educators, experienced practitioners and administrators. The pass mark is set at a level that represents the performance expected of a competent entry-level practical nurse.

The panel of content experts reviews each examination question and produces ratings based on a common understanding of a competent entry-level practical nurse. In addition to these ratings, a variety of relevant data (for example, information on the preparation of new graduates, data on results from previously administered examinations) are carefully considered to ensure that the pass mark that candidates must achieve on the examination is valid and fair. Based on this information, an appropriate pass mark is set. Also, to ensure fairness, the different versions of the examination are equated so that all candidates have to meet the same standard regardless of the version of the examination.

For each form of the CPNRE, the pass mark is the same across writing centres and across provinces and territories. The pass mark is also the same for English and French versions of the CPNRE.

It's on the CNO website and the papers they sent you before you wrote.

I know in past years it was a bell curve.

My guess is the exam results will be in our hands on or around Oct 18th. I would love the 4 week mark but I am not betting on it! I am dying waiting as we all are...my temp should be here soon and my job starting in a few weeks....GOD I pray I passed..think I did ok but you never know.

Results could be in our hands in one week!! I am scarred ******... I honestly think I failed, but I guess everyone thinks that way after writing. I hope I pass, and the thing that sucks the most, is my husband works in the post office, sorting mail. So he will know if I pass or fail before I do. I already told him about the big and small envelop. Keep Praying!
