CPNRE - January 11th, 2012

Published

Without talking about specific material from the exam of course, discuss how you found the exam? Difficulty level? Did the CPNRE prep manual/predictor test compare to the exam itself?

Also, feel free to post results here, when they arrive of course!

This is also the first writing of the "new" CPNRE. Prior to yesterdays writing, the exam was 8 hours long, divided into 2 booklets, rather than 4 hours and 1 booklet. As far as the content and difficulty level of this exam compared to those prior, I'm not sure if that changed as well.

I personally found the exam to be a bit more difficult than the practice exam in the CPNRE prep guide, as well as the online predictor test. I scored %95-%100 on the predictor tests, which means it concluded I have a 95-100 % chance of passing the CPNRE. I found the answers in the prep guide and the predictor test to be fairly obvious, where as on the actual CPNRE, I read a lot of questions, thought I knew the answer before looking at the available choices, but once seeing the options I wasn't so sure anymore.

Through my PN course I averaged a mixture of high 70s and low 80s during finals but I must say, I have no idea how I did on this exam. It's really one of those exams where I either did extremely well, or failed miserably. At least that's how it feels!

I wish everyone the best of luck and I hope we all get that PASS letter in the mail!

Keep us posted & share your thoughts here! :)

If anyone hears of the passing grade for this writing please share! It will only show up on those exam results who were unsuccessful though, so if you hear it from any of your peers please share.

I'm sure we're all curious to know how low the passing grade is or is not given this new exam format.

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for the update, and thanks Ottawa Valley for your kind words and helpful suggestions! Just wondering, you mentioned you have a learning disability. I have an anxiety disorder but didn't apply for accomodation...I'm thinking that I should have! Did you apply for accomodation, and was it an easy process?

Good luck everyone!

Check out Facebook, they have a page, not sure what it's called cno or cpne. There's a few on there also wondering about the passing grade.

Look for Canadian practical nurse Registration Examination on Facebook

Geduld, I did not have any time limitations on my examination, which was very helpful because of my learning disability. You can apply for special considerations. I also had a friend who had an unlimited time to write because she too had a learning disability. If you end up having to rewrite, try and get the consideration. You will have to provide documentation and proof, but tt will help you a lot if you find that your anxiety problem has affected your ability to write.

Insomniac, don’t confuse the two schools. There is the Toronto School of Health which has the facebook website. I did a lot of research on them, and they have a very bad reputation on allnurses and charge something like 1000 dollars. You can check out their website at www.torontoschoolofhealth.com. The other issue is that it is not at all taught by nurses, but a healing doctor or something.

I took it at the Toronto School of Nursing, which you can find at www.torontoschoolofnursing.com They charge 750 dollars, their course is a couple of days shorter. And also they are all taught by Registered Nurse Educators, which I found to be very helpful because my teacher was able to relate all the information to specific practice. Me and a couple of my girlfriends took the course. We would stay at my friends dads place who lives in Toronto, which is was also an influencing factor. We all ended up passing, but really studied 24 hours a day. We didn’t go to work and just used the time to study, so you really have to set your priorities.

You can also take a prep course offered at Durham College, which is also taught by nurses. I can’t find their link though. Its located in Oshawa, although I don’t have any friends who took it.

I personally studied day and night because I failed the first two times. I should have never written it the first two times because I didn’t put the right amount of effort into studying. No course will make you pass unless you put in the sweat in hours and study all of your nursing stuff.

Oh, I wasn't referring to the Toronto School of Health itself, I was simply posting the Facebook page where a lot of people are talking about the CPNRE. I'm not suggesting anyone actually go to that school, it's just a good page to get exam info on. They'll likely post the required passing grade there as well.

No results for me yet. Guess this will be a longgggg weekend!

anyone get their results yet?

Nothing here in southern Ontario yet!

Thanks Ottawa Valley for sharing! And I meant to tell you good for you for sticking it out and making the third time the charm! You've given me some good ideas about what I can do next time if I have to rewrite. Still praying and hoping that maybe I won't have to, though!

Nothing in my mailbox today. I'm so feeling bummed out. Lord watch over us.

I'm out in Alberta... Nothing here yet either. I'm getting really nervous :( just hoping for the best.....
