CPNE process

There is always a 4-9 month wait list for the CPNE exam. Excelsior will send you an application package when you are eligible to apply. You must have a current CPR card when you test.

Mudwoman, I read about your experiences in this forum w/ regards to the CPNE. Can you send me a post as to how your days went? I am trying to get all the narratives from as many great CPNE passers - b/c I have no clinical experience at all. I have enrolled in 2 workshops just to get it. Thanks!

Gidget...in addition to mudwomans experience the EC peer network has CPNE journals message board from people that have experienced the CPNE pages and pages of it

I'm not sure how you would get far enough to do the CPNE and not have ANY clinical experience?

It is my understanding that the EC nursing program takes RN students that completed at least half of the clinical portion, LPN/LVN's, Paramedics and Registered Respiratory Therapists. All of these have some clinical experience.

Are you sure that you have NO clinical experience?????

Hi there mudwoman...I have clinical experience in another medical related field (pharmacy), but not nursing.

If you have limited clinical experience you'll need more reference material.

I would have to recommend getting yourself a clinical skills book and an assessment book you can find some cheap online. And practice on everyone that will let you, I know it sounds silly but it might help.

"Admission to our associate degree nursing programs is open to:

Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses,

Paramedics

Military service Corpsmen

Individuals who hold degrees in clinically oriented health care fields in which they have had the opportunity to provide DIRECT PATIENT care (e.g., physicians, respiratory therapists, and physician assistants)

Also, individuals who have successfully completed at least 50 percent of the clinical nursing credit hours in an associate, baccalaureate, or RN diploma program may be eligible for the program if they apply within 5 years of completing their last nursing course. The necessary documentation, such as copies of licenses, certificates, and official transcripts must be submitted with the admissions application.

The Bachelor of Science in nursing or RN to MS in nursing degree programs are open to students who have successfully completed the NCLEX-RN and have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the US.

So, I'm confused. If you were accepted into the AA/AAS program, then you must have had enough clinical experience to qualify and if you didn't have enough, then how did you get into the program.

I'm trying to convince you that you probably have more clinical "experience" than you think in order to build up your confidence so you think more positively. On the other hand, if you really have only clinical experience in pharmacy, I have to wonder why as a Pharmacist, you would want to become a nurse. You have a better "stick" as a Pharmacist, and with no DIRECT PATIENT care, I still don't know how you qualify for this program.

Hi guys, don't know where that profile came from. I don't want to mislead anyone. But, I want a second career...more with patient care. I have a lot of nurse friends who fill me in...and I think it is a great profession. They let me watch them at work and I love it! I will look into those reference materials...Carpenito's right?

first thing have you completed all the concepts 1-7? the workshops are not going to give you clinical experience ,they are just going to reinforce what you know and show you how ec wants it done. you may be able to practice but you are expected to have had a fairly good amount of exposure to these clinical skills. ive been a nurse 8 years various experience including being a nursing supervisor and acute care. i am iv certified and trained hardcore by the best. i had 1500 hours of clinical at the county hospital in ft worth..i'm scared to death of this test and it will take me several months to prepare . i don't know how you would get by without clinical experience.. you may want to look into a campus based program...

oh and you might want to change that profile . you definitely don't want to get in trouble misrepresenting yourself because in most states it is against the law.

Okay, I don't think "GIDGET3411" is for real.

On 5/2/07 this person posted that they used Lisa Arends' study guides and TCN study guides and got all A's. Also posted to another thread that she/he had passed all 7 of the NC exams and had the CPNE study guide and was looking for the application forms. So, this leads one to believe that this person is enrolled in EC and has therefore met all the admission criteria, but this person is obviously not a licenced nurse or paramedic, or corpsman or respiratory therapist. Sorry, doesn't add up. Oh, has NO clinical experience just pharmacy and made all "A's" at that. NO WAY!

Then on 5/10/07 this person posted that she/he would be going to GA (same location as Melody went to) in July for the CPNE exam. Now are we to believe that this person got the application all filled out, the physical, shot records and background check AND got a CPNE date when for the rest of us, it takes weeks to get the application process done and even hear from EC for a CPNE date that is 4-9 months out? AND, between now and July, this person is going to take not 1 but 2 workshops to get the clinical experience needed.

Now on this thread we learn that she/he doesn't have a clue how RN/ADN got on her/his profile and this person has NO clinical experience, but has nursing friends that let her/him watch them at work and these same nurses "fill me in".

All this is a joke and I hope that Eric is checking in and this person should be banned.
