COVID-19: "You're Just A Nurse"

Hi Everyone!

First things first, I'd like to thank nurses for being so kind to their patients and always working to do what's best for them! Thank you thank you!

I heard the most disrespectful and rude comment ever from someone on a facebook live. With Covid-19, many are freaked out if they have a cough or sniffle. So understandable! A friend of mine, who is a nurse, has an informational facebook page for everyone to be informed about staying healthy and safe in general and during a time like this. Today, she went live on her page and there were about 78 people on and she's just telling people how to stay safe during this time and answering any questions. She also mentioned how the media isn't the best way to get information cause there is fake news, and if you need information, go to professional sights like Harvard Medical's newsletters, or your local hospital's newsletters! There may be information there. She even provided links in the live video description.

So she's talking and going on and someone commented, "Well, you're just a nurse so you don't know what you're talking about. I only listen to professionals like doctors and specialists." Arrrrr!! How rude! I was so upset. People completely disrespect and underestimate nurses because we aren't doctors. I am not disrespecting doctors at all, but the reason I didn't want to be a doctor is that I wanted to really be connected with patients and make a positive impact. Again, not disrespecting doctors at all. Doctors do connect with their patients but I feel that nurses have a bit more room to make connections with patients. I'm sorry for the rant! Felt like sharing!

Have you ever had a negative work story?

Mya, as a nurse, only since 1984.?️

Outspoken and ignorant at the same time, it's good to be multi-talented. This person has no clue what nurses need to learn in order to be credentialed.

You will find there is no shortage of rudeness and ignorance. I also have a pet theory that those who are the most disparaging toward nurses either wanted to become one but didn't have the guts, or flunked out of nursing school.

I bet you’re right!!

About a month ago there was an article that kept showing on my computer.EOout and help all of you who are putting yourselves in harm's way. My nursing days are over , but my heart is with all of you. I would love to know who that CEO was, and what he is thinking now! Nurses are the backbone of the hospital. As an instructor said,"there wouldn't need to be hospitals if there was no need for nurses!"

I pray you all are safe. I know you are working horribly long hours without adequate rest and food. Please be careful! Retired nurses like me, care about you every day.
CEO's have no idea what nurses do! Maybe this pandemic will change their minds.
