Hi everyone
just a quick question. when you have a Postpartum unit with nurses who do not go into the OR do they have to wear covergowns when leaving the unit? is this an old practice that is no longer necessary?
thanks for your input.

most hospitals in high susceptible to infection areas, such as, post partum unit with the little ones or an icu definitly require cover gowns to leave the floor. it's sanitary:)

We wear unit-issued scrubs that we also use in the OR.

The person who is to "scrub in" to actually take the baby from the OB wears a sterile gown.
Otherwise, we don't use cover gowns anymore. Some places will have you wear a lab coat, but IMO, that gets even dirtier because they don't get taken home and washed very often.

No cover gowns (or lab coats) are required when leaving the unit. We also wear our scrubs in from home.

We do that too; aside from that we can wear hospital scrubs (that most of us take home) or our own scrubs. 99% of our c/s are on our unit now so we don't leave the unit much (although we've started shipping a lot of couplets to a private pod at the end of a m/s unit so that may change...)
