When I was 18 I was convicted of receiving stolen property twice. Both times I didn't know it was stolen until I was arrested. Now I had a hard time getting my license for my LNA and I just got a call saying that the home I wanted to work at will not hire me because of it. I hate myself so much for being so naive, and stupid. I wish there was something I could do but I can't seem to get it taken care of. Well just needed to vent.

I am so sorry to hear that it is a shame that we can't be forgiven for our past mistakes. I wish you luck in the future....I am sure something will come up for you.

You didn't state your age, and the time that has past is important.

However...there has to be more to your story. When I am purchasing things from ebay, pawn shop or in a retail store I have never had this problem. I also don't "keep" things for friends...why should I? They should have their own place...if they can't keep something at their own place, then the first thing you should have been asking is why.

Very rarely does someone get convicted for just having something that was stolen by someone else...usually it has to be proven that you had reason to believe it was stolen.

The first one was bought with a stolen credit card, I found out when a cop at my school told me. The second was a gift from a friend it was a gift card that he had stolen from work. How was I to know this, I wasn't with them 24 hours a day. I took responsibility for what was a crime, it was proven. I was 18 when it happened I am now 29. I was stupid and young, I paid for my stupidity and now I am paying again. I am trying to get it annulled, the state of NH still offers this in some cases. Thanks for the support, I really needed it now.

What you are looking for is called an expungement.

If it's a misdemeanor, chances are pretty good for you. If it's a felony..not so good.

Either way you'll need an attorney. What is going to count is improvements you have made in your life, the time that has passed, and the fact neither was drug or violence related.

The first one, I don't really see how you could be held responsible unless it was a very expensive item that a casual friend wouldn't have had the means to give to you.

The second that was a gift card...gift cards are out in the open at retail establishments b/c the number isn't activated until they are scanned and paid for...but there are scams where people write these numbers down (the cards near the front), and then keep entering the numbers on the internet over and over again until they realize it's activated....that is why when you go now to the stores, these numbers are usually covered up by the packaging or silver scratch-off material..that one would be a little harder to explain.

While we can't provide legal advice, we can provide support. I ask that you only provide support versus ways to get this resolved.

Thanks.
