Controversial HealthcareTopics...

Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

I have to write a paper for school and I am stumped for ideas. The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are euthanasia and abortion- not bad topics, but I am trying to come up with something a little more original than those.

So I figured you kind folks :D here at allnurses might have some ideas- just a topic is all I am looking for. I wll handle the research from there.... ;) I have to pick a topic and write a "position" paper on it.

Thanks in advance,

Eugenics is a hot topic.

PSA and euthanasia are always a good topic.

Informed consent is a good topic. It is not suppose to be controversial, but often is due to the fine line between consent versus coerced consent.

2. Closed visitation in critical care vs. open visitation.

3. If you really want to be controversial, you could discuss the dramatic increase in treatment of ADD/ADHD - is it necessary?

4. Nurses modeling unhealthy behavior (i.e. smoking)

5. Infrared tracking of nurses in order to tweak their proficiency - to ensure they answer call buttons fast enough and don't spend too much time in any one room. (25% of hospitals use nurse collars).

6. Staffing ratios.

7. Lack of organization among nurses.

8. male nurses in L&D

9. Should medicare/medicaid pts be required to pay co-pays for ER visits?

10. unionization vs. non-unionization of nurses.
