Contributing to a group gift for your NM?

Just wondering if this is common?

We're being asked to contribute for a holiday gift card for our manager, in any amount. If you're doing this, if you don't mind, could you share how much you're contributing? I just don't know what's appropriate.

Specializes in CMSRN.

If I were to give I would do $5.oo. But I agree with the previous post to give only if you are in the spirit of it.

I am not in the giving spirit this year for my NM or the 2 assist NM or the Clinical coordinator or somebody else that I can't remember their title, so I will not give. (I know I sound bad but I have my reasons.)

Specializes in ICU, nutrition.

Seriously???

I've never worked anywhere where it was expected to give the BOSS something for Christmas! Now if my boss were leaving, I'd chip in for a going-away present...my co-workers of my very small department threw me a baby shower when I had my son 2 and a half years ago...we bought our boss lunch for Boss's day a couple of months ago...it was the first time we'd ever done that. At my prn job they are always having baby showers or wedding showers for different co-workers...I've never been to any of them. A few of my co-workers chipped in for a gift when I had my daughter 4 and a half years ago, which was nice, but totally unexpected and honestly a little weird, as they all worked days and I worked nights, but anyway...

Cheesy...especially with the economy how it is right now.

Specializes in ICU.

i hand over the requisite $5 - just glad that i wasn't the one selected to do the shopping for that gift.

our manager's gift to us - more paperwork, meetings and new rules.:icon_roll

there is a nurse that recently transferred to our department; while she is nice as a person, she brings in more confusion to the workplace and most of us can do without her grandstanding. if she were leaving, i would get her a one way ticket to where ever she wants to go to ensure that she doesn't darken our clinic doors ever again. i don't see that happening, so...

Specializes in ER.

I agree it depends on how many people are going in on the gift. I would say $100 gift would be more than sufficient so I would divide by the number of people expected to give and give that much. I would never give over $20.00
