Hello, first time here. I kind of have a dilemma. I started accelerated LPN program at in 2010. I just resently failed a module and won't be able to start again until October. Fees went up July 1st. I am not eligible for financial aid, so I have to come up with $9000 before starting class in October. I wondering if its even worth it now to continue. The total price of this LPN program is going to be about what it is for the RN program(including prereqs). Should I pay $9000 and continue with LPN or start doing my prereqs for RN? I'm so indecisive on what to do?? Any advice?

If you failed a module in the LPN program, have you done anything differently to ensure success if you were to attend an RN program? Your next move depends on the answer to this question.
It makes no sense in the world to pursue a higher program if you have not yet addressed the issues that led to your failure in a lower level program. Good luck with whatever decision you make.
Thx for your input. I failed the module by 2points. Barely. I don't know what else I can do. I gave up my family life and work life for this program. I did group study on the weekends. Maybe I'm just in a runt because it feels like I did all that studying and failed, then finding out I have to pay so much before returning. My husband is the only income we have and were barley making ends meet. There's no way we could come up with $9000 in 3months. This program has been hard on my whole family. I've had 3weeks off of school total(not including this time I have to take off until October). Maybe this accelerated program is too much for me?! I have many things on my mind!

That must be very difficult. If the cost is the issue and you know for sure you want to become an RN, it may not be a bad idea to slow down and do the pre-req's for the RN and go for that. I know plenty of GREAT nurses that failed one course or clinical but didn't give up. They knew it was just a bad rotation and they came back stronger than ever. Don't do anything rash and slowing down may definitely help you get the perspective you're looking for. Good luck!
Thx. Maybe your right, maybe I do need to slow down. I thought I could do this accelerated LPN program, but once I got further in the program I told myself "what did I get myself into?" Were doing semester work in 2months. I don't want to quit! I've wanted to be an RN for along time. I just need to look at all my options and see whats best. Thank you again for your input!

I have been through your situation so I guess I feel I can speak on your issue. I was in a accelerated LPN program, and didn't do so well the first semster and failed by a 0.5, made a 79.5 I had to have a 80. So yes I was devastated, but I decided to stop focusing on my failure. I continued on and did the other prereqs for the RN program. I applied March of this year and I will be starting the RN program the Fall 2012. For me the accelerated LPN route was just to much, the RN program is different the classes are 16 weeks, for the LPN program the classes were 6 weeks. A huge difference in learning the content. I say do what is best for you. I wish you well in your nursing journey.

Are you eligible for any grants or tuition assistance from your county or state?
mzrainydayz..did u continue with the LPN program? I want to finish the program because when I do decide to do the RN program it'll be something I know, but financially I can't afford it. I'm not eligible for financial aid. I've applied for 2 scholarships?? We'll see what happens. This LPN 13month program has turned into a 2yr program. I'm thinking now I should of just went straight to the RN program?! I'm just so confused on what to do next.
And good luck to you in the RN program!
busyb32...I'm not eligible for financial aid. The program I'm in is clock hours. I took a leave of absence the beginning of the program and they considered it a fail. So when I failed this last class that was 2 fails for me. 2 fails and they won't give you financial aid. I can try for grants & loans.

If you came that close to passing, I would say you certainly can grasp the material. A little bit slower pace would be better all the way around. Could you go part time and work to relieve the family financial obligations also? No point in finishing lpn school and getting a divorce. Little good the extra income would do you then! Do not stress the whole family over this thing is my point.
Good luck with whatever you do!
Thanks, I was offered another opportunity to come back to the LPN program, but I turned it down because I knew how stressed I was the last time with the program being fast paced. I say do what is best for you, and I do understand the financial issue you are having. I hope you get scholarships, apply to as many scholarships. Whatever you do don't give up if nursing is your passion. Just figure out what route is best for you. Don't let the money issues get to you because it will affect your health and family. You will get there in due time sweetie.
student forever..with the LPN program it would be really hard to be at school full-time and work part-time. There's so much material that has to be studied in one week it would be almost impossible to work part-time and do family life. I know people can juggle that all but I've done it before and I couldn't do it. I still have a few months to figure out what I have to do, I need to think whats best for everyone. Thank you again for your advice. Its nice to hear different opinions.
