I am 29 and single. I am considering trying the traveling nursing. Is this also a good way to meet new people or are you too busy learning your way around to meet people? Are you often left sitting at home when you aren't working?

Thanks

If you are outgoing and willing to take the initiative in meeting people it can be a great experience. You do need to be comfortable doing things on your own though, especially when you first arrive in a new place. In 7 years of traveling I've developed lasting friendships with people all over the country.

Take a deep breath and jump in - the water's fine!

I am traveling for the first time, and am staying in my own home. I took a contract to work 50 miles away and selected to get a housing allowance. I am planning to drive back and forth, but if I get tired, I will find a small motel to crash at. The housing allowance gives me $9.00 tax free per hour.

About meeting people.... I am a member of the Oncology Nursing Nurding Society. Seems every county in the US has one. They have dinner meetings once a month with a speaker, a drug company donates dinner in a nice restaurant. Good way to meet people. Look at the organizations that support your specialty, and meet people

Go for it. I have just been traveling since 1/03 and felt the same way you are feeling. I can say that you will make new friends at all the assignments and they are more than willing to include you in their outside activities and offer tips on local attractions, restaurants etc. I am now on my third assignment and loving every minute of it. One major thing to watch out for is the company you go with. I started with Cirrus as they were the only one to give me the opportunity to travel as I did not have a year of recent experience. My recruiter bent over backward for me. Unfortunately he was unable to get me an assignment in my home state of Maine so I had to go with another. I have regretted that decision every day.

I started traveling in June of this year... I was such a chicken, but decided when else am I going to be able to pick my place, pick my pay and have a great time doing it? I have met some of the nicest people at the hospital I work at. I have enjoyed the area I am in. You know you just have to keep an open mind and be willing to do things differently that what you are used yo doing them. I am so happy i took the plung.. I wouldn't have it any other way!! :)
