I think you are so right. Sometimes I think people just jump the gun about having an induction, isn't as easy as some make it seem. The 2 places that I have worked that use Cytotec have in the policy the pharmacy breaks the pill into 25mcg pieces and the doc has to be the one to insert it. I think that is the way it should be. Is it protocol where anyone works to have IV access while using Cytotec? Where I work right now doesn't and I think it is necessary, or at least a heplock... what do you think?

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone thought like that! I have seen docs start Pit on an unripe cervix more often than not.

Yes, we have the Bishop scoring, but no one ever documents it being done... even in the person is closed, thick&firn, and sky high.. guess what... they still get the Cytotec! You know I wonder why they even come up with things if docs are just going to totally override it each and every time they just want to get a patient delivered!!! Anyone else wonder this?
  4. I am working with Readylink Healthcare right now... DON'T use them... it has been one bad trip for sure. I am currently working with Cross Country Trav Corps http://www.crosscountrytravcorps.com and they are great!! I also have an application in with RN Network http://www.rnnetwork.com and their company is great... haven't heard any complaints about either one of these companies. It never hurts to have your application in with more than one company. That way if one can't fill your needs at one time or another you have something to fall back on. Just make sure you keep track of who is submitting your application and to what hospital so you don't get double submissions.
  5. I am an L&D nurse and have had no problems getting an assignment in L&D at all. There are so many openings. To get started I did a broad search on the internet, from there I chose companies that basically had the benefits I wanted. On some companies' websites you can search through the assignments they have open to find the area you are looking to work in, and the state sometimes town that the assignment is in.

This is the main reason that I hate using Cytotec. It may be "great" for "ripening" a cervix, but once you put it in you can't take it back. You can always pull a Cervidil or shut off the Pit, but Cytotec is a lost cause. By the way what dosage of Cytotec was prescribed? No wonder the package insert says 'not to be taken by pregnant patients'
  7. MAN!! Where do you work? LOL I think I need to find an assignemt to work there for a little while! :)
  8. I just want to know if any one has recognized the relationship with L&D nurses and problems getting pregnant? I have been an L&D nurse for 3 years now and had 3 miscarriages. I have known several other nurses that work L&D & NICU (at different hospitals mind you) that have had problems getting pregnant and or staying pregnant. Anyone else noticed this? Do you think it's just in my head? Just curious... and bored at work!
  9. The hospital where I currently work tests anyone and everyone that walks in the door. No matter what the complaint is. We do not inform the patient we are doing a drug screen... it's just "policy" here. If a mom has a positive screen if she is in labor then when the baby is born we get a urine sample from the baby and send off the first stool for tox screening. WHY they do this I have no idea because when you report it NOTHING is ever done. Mom take the baby home, even if the baby is positive!! so what is the point in doing anything in the first place!
