I am preparing to move out of state and have filled out several applications and am in the process of talking to nurse managers and setting up interviews for when I fly into town in a couple of weeks.
I have one interview set up already and have been playing phone tag with another unit manager for almost a week, with the holiday and everything. We finally touched base today, she seemed eager to meet with me and we set up a date and a time to interview with the shift charge nurse during my visit. Everything seemed fine. She didn't even seem to have any issue at all with the fact that I am unavailable to interview until the week of the 16th of July.
Exactly ONE HOUR later I receive an email from the nurse recruiter from the hospital, thanking me for my interest, but informing me that the position has been filled.
Should I call and confirm that the position has been filled, or assume that something that I said during the phone call so offended the manager that she decided not to meet with me. It just seems strange that within one hour the position is filled.
What do you all think?

I think it is very probable that the "perfect applicant" showed up, and was immediately hired. What I would do is to send a very nice reply (preferably a written letter so it can be filed with your application) to the nurse recruiter and thank her for notifying you. Ask her to keep you in mind if this newly hired person decides she does not really fit into the position, or if she has another vacancy in the near future.
Don't fall into the trap of negative thinking!

I think this is an excellent suggestion. What I would not do is to just forget about it. Write the letter, with a way you can be contacted, and perhaps you will hear from them again. If not, there are plenty of other fish in the sea, but at least you aren't turning your back to a possible employer.
Good luck, with the move and job hunting. Let us know how it turns out.

I would call and speak to the nurse manager. Places have "openings" all the time the HR doesnt know about. She may still want to meet with you.

I was hired one time by the nurse manager of ICU and the next day got a letter from the HR office that the positon I had applied for was not being offered any longer.
So on the day I was suppose to start of course I did not show and got a call from the ICU supervisor asking why I was not at work for orientation.
I explained to her that I got the letter from the HR -- what HR did was got confused and hired the wrong nurse.
I got the job in ICU with a big apology and have no idea what happend to the other RN. who was wrongly hired.
Call the nurse manager and see if there was an error you have nothing to loose. I hope for you it was a mistake and wish you luck -- let us know.
