Hi everyone! I noticed that there wasn't a thread yet for CUI's Fall 2021 ABSN program and wanted to start one! Is there anyone else applying?
(Accepted) Prerequisite GPA was 4.0, last 60 units GPA was 3.86, cumulative GPA was low and floated around 3.0-3.2 depending on if they counted my original grades for some classes I retook. Over 2,000 hours working as a CNA at a magnet hospital in the area as well as solid letters of recommendation. I felt very confident in my admissions essay. As for the interview, I feel like I had a couple hiccups but overall was able to show them who I was and what I had to offer.
Hope this helps.
(Accepted) Hi! I am a reapplicant. I applied for Summer 2021 and got waitlisted. I never got a call from the waitlist, so I reapplied for this upcoming semester.
My prereq GPA is 3.7. I do not have much volunteer hours and did not highlight on my volunteer hours at all in my interview. I became a CNA last year and recently obtained my HHA and EKG certifications. I have experience (but not a lot) working as a CNA in a skilled nursing facility and acute rehab center in a hospital. Furthermore, I didn’t feel confident in either of my interviews. However, I felt very confident in both essays.
I also truly believe having in-progress courses very much determines the decision. I also had in progress courses when I applied for the Summer semester.
Advice: Don’t give up and reapply! I hope this helps you all!

I was accepted for Fall 2021. My pre-req GPA was 4.0 and my major GPA was 3.6. I majored in something non-health related (Business Economics) (which I initially thought would be a huge disadvantage). I have no CNA experience, but I did volunteer at the hospital doing CNA tasks such as taking vitals, feeding, and ambulating patients. Definitely check out this program called Cope Health Scholar if you live in CA. I was able to gain hands on patient care experience without having to become a CNA. I actually learned about this program from AllNurses haha! I also worked full time as a Health Client Specialist for the past two years. It is a corporate job where I help patients with medical benefit related issues. I think a huge factor to getting in is the interview. You have to be genuine and stand out at the same time! (I.e. if you are a funny or bubbly person definitely let that shine through)
(Disclaimer: I recommend not getting too hung up on the stats/experiences of other applicants. For instance, most of my experience was working my corporate job and I even majored in something non-health related. I focused on myself and how I could stand out despite not being as experienced as other applicants and it worked!).
@Kbui I got accepted into the Fall 2021 cohort. I had a 4.0 prereq GPA and a 3.7 cumulative GPA. I also worked as a medical scribe for four years and a medical assistant for about 9 months. I would agree with what everyone said about the interviews. It seems like you need to dig deep on your experiences even if they are not healthcare related, and relate them to your reasons of becoming a nurse or how these experiences have shaped you into the person you are today. Everyone in the group interviews were amazing people so just be confident in yourself, your skills, your experiences, and your potential to become a nurse. I think that confidence translates to a passion in nursing. I wish you the best of luck!!

Hi! I think my pre-req is above or around a 3.5 and I have a B.S in Public Health with a lot of volunteer and program planning experience. I had an internship in college working with disabled athletes. I enrolled in a medical assistant program and work in a dermatology office. I also felt really good about the interview and short essay. It might be helpful to reach out to some nursing admissions tutors for essay and interview prep! Hope this is helpful! Best of luck to you!
