Concordia University Irvine ABSN Fall 2021

Published

Hi everyone! I noticed that there wasn't a thread yet for CUI's Fall 2021 ABSN program and wanted to start one! Is there anyone else applying?

Hi everyone, I applied for this program this Summer, unluckily and luckily I didn’t get in. But I do wanna share a bit of my experience. I think they focused a lot on the interview. I had very high GPA, but no medical related experience or certificates. I answered all the questions confidently and clearly, I didn’t blank, pretty nervous as everyone else in my group. But I think they have specific ideas or things they wanted to hear. I said everything truly from my heart, but I got rejected. At first, I wanted to apply for the fall again, but then I realized that even I apply again, I still do not know how to answer their questions. The interview questions were pretty basic, I had no idea what else I can say to improve my answers.  I finally decided not to apply for this school again. Fortunately, I got into another program. SO my suggestion for the interview is not to talk about what you really think, but try to figure out what they wanna hear. I obviously don’t know what they wanna hear, otherwise I wouldn’t get rejected LOL. Anyway, good luck to everyone who are trying to get in.

I just applied, good luck everyone.

NurseABSN, do you remember any of the questions?

@NurseABSN thank you for your input and congratulations on getting accepted into a program! I'm also really nervous about the interview portion as well (even if I didn't get invited yet haha). Trying to figure out what they want to hear is pretty challenging. It's like, as much as you have to be yourself, you also have to be who they want you to be? That's kind of hard. How was the timed essay part for you?

Interview questions are pretty basic, such as why you want to be a nurse, why Concordia should admit you, your support system, how your academic career benefits your ABSN program, your best achievement, how you express your frustration, something you're good at. Be ready to ask them questions as well. My essay question was something about leadership, not very hard. I don't think they pay too much attention to essays. It seems like that they change the topics, not sure every cohort or every few cohorts.  Many people got in, I think it is better to join their group FB and ask how they answered their questions. I felt pretty good about my performance in the interview, but I failed LOL. Anyway, when you guys answer the questions, give some deep thought, I don't think they are looking for simple but real answers I gave.

@FutureNurseABSN Thank you so much for the insight! They have been really helpful. Do you know how many people they interviewed out of all the applicants?

I went to their information session once, I remembered they mentioned that they would interview around 200 people. But I only saw are about 40 ppl in my session, and there were 4 sessions in total. I figured it should be 160. I’m not sure why there was a difference between the number I calculated and the one they gave.

thanks for sharing @FutureNurseABSN!! ?
and good luck in your program!!

and awesome @ABSNHopeful2021!! Good luck to you too ?

I'm thinking of reapplying as well, but from my understanding, I think medical related experience is pretty important and I don't have a lot so that's probably why I didn't get in this first time. Also from the info session, I remember them saying they received like 200 applications and then interviewed around 150 or so. From the interviews, I felt like I was giving answers that were genuine and didn't think they were looking for anything specifically. They said from the beginning that they wanted us to answer honestly and be ourselves and I felt everyone in my group had different answers, none of which seemed wrong to the people interviewing us. Hope this helps!!

@calinurse.am Thank you for sharing your interview experience! Did you also apply to the Summer 2021 cohort?

Hi everyone! I came across the Fall 2021 application today which is a bit last minute but I’m trying to gather everything together.  I just need to finish my statement of intent, send in LOR and submit official transcript with my current class.

I feel like my chances are slim since I have classes in-progress but I’ll still give it a shot! Is anyone currently having pre-reqs in progress? I am currently finish up Physio which ends 05/26. Do you think it will be too last minute to send in my official transcript with the expedited option? I also still have Micro to finish this Summer and that’s it!

Also, are we just submitting all the documents (pdf) to the email they provided us with on the application?

Hey everyone!

Also just finished submitting all of my supporting documents for my application.  Really hoping I get in to this program.

From what I've read from past applicants on different threads, the interview questions seem to be just questions that are meant to get to know you.  I've heard that they're not really questions that you can prepare for.

Excited to be on this journey with you all.  Best of luck to us!

** also, IDK if anyone else is like me and needs to know when they should be expecting updates/invites/acceptance notifications but from what I can see from last years Fall Cohort:

July 2nd: Invitations for interviews were emailed out.

July 10th & 11th: Interview dates.

July 22nd: Acceptance/waitlist emails were sent out.

I also added a document that is the "2020 ABSN Application-Graduation Timeline."  You can see the dates were a bit off from what actually occurred in 2020, so I expect that these dates can fluctuate.

Hey! I sent everything in pdf form to that email they provided us, aside from transcripts & LOR (they have their own page that you link to your references for them to fill out).
