Hello, I am considering going into nursing and have a few questions. I took biology in high school and was not too fond of it. I am kind of nervous about going into biology and microbiology because of this fact. I know that I need to get a good grade in both biology (I have to take this class as a pre-req for microbiology) and micro in order to get into the nursing program. Does anyone have any advice for me? I am a good student but have never been too good at science except for Chemistry. I still got B's in science but am wondering if college classes are going to be more challenging? Also, I have heard that A&P is a lot of memorization, is this true? If so I am really good at memorizing! Thank you so much everyone!
Ha, depending on where you lived, I would recommend probably the most entertaining microbiology professor in the world! You would totally get it. And don't forget about all of those fabulous science "coloring books." They are FANTASTIC for learning stuff. They have them for general bio and microbiology, as well as anatomy/physiology. I was practicing my ASL using one yesterday, and as I was looking through it with my tutor, I was getting kind of mad that I didn't know about that book when I was taking bio/microbio!
The sciences are the BASIS of nursing practice. How the body works, how drugs affect different organ systems @ different stages of life, what's normal and why, reasons for getting various lab tests and what the results mean... You can't be a professional nurse w/o knowing this stuff.
As someone else mentioned, nursing builds on a foundation of science. Unless you have a strong foundation, you're going to have problems further down the line. You do need Bio, Micro, A&P, & Chem to do the job.

Don't worry I hate hate hate the science classes too! As long as your a dedicated student and pay attention and study you will do just fine!
