Most people who blamed the CE's for their failures are the ones that came to the site unprepared. We all signed up for this program it's self-paced and self-taught. We were never told the school was going to teach us what to expect at the CPNE we all knew that we had to teach ourselves. I heard so many (they didn't say, I didn't know) when I was testing. I just kept repeating "it was in the manual". I had a love, hate relationship with this program. I loved it because I didn't have to take days off work, leave my family. I hated it because if I failed at anything I WOULD HAVE TO BLAME MYSELF.

I am thinking of Wisconsin too- why are you choosing it?Curious as to the pros vs cons. I will be applying for both npac and mpac as well.

I am doing Excelsior's workshop in Wisconsin because mainly, it is closest to me (I am in Minnesota) and also because the timing will be best (the workshop is mid july, and I am taking my last 2 exams this month) and because although i will apply to MPAC and NPAC, I will most likely end up doing CPNE in WI . I have been following the CPNE board on the EPN a bit, and man...there seems to be plenty that fail from there. This was just at a glance, but in the last few pages I saw more that failed from WI than other places. They seem to have smaller hospitals, and that is where I will most likely feel comfortable. I originally wanted skip the workshops, but I want as much exposure to this clinical component as possible.

One complaint that I read on the complaintboard.com was that "the other student passed probably because she looked like the CE's Aun't Matilda"......and any credibility I would have given to this student just went right out the window. I will add that many, many of their stories come are learning experiences. Not documenting that half a carton of milk, not documenting the 5cc of liquid medicine for the infant in her I & O....subtle things, but of great importance.

I agree with many of the previous post. This program is not for everyone but with ALOT of EFFORT and TIME, you CAN PASS! I put alot into my success in the CPNE. I read the manual, took a workshop, did a few online workshops, bought every CD on the CPNE I could find and I practiced day in and day out. It was a total out of body experience but I passed. I took it one task and one PCS at a time. I UNDERSTOOD the CPNE process. Many who fail do not understand the process. I thank GOD for EC program. There is not a day that doesn't go by that I do not incoporate the 20 minute check and the other critical elements in my nursing care. The CPNE is very critical for eveyday nursing. Anyone who is considering the program should evaluate your strengths and weaknesses and give the program 110%. You don't have to have alot of experience. I did the program in 12 months fresh out of LPN school. If your dedicated to the program and control your anxiety, your will pass!

PS. I stayed away from all the negative comments about EC. Your mind is a powerful thing. If you put negative things in, it will consume you.
