Competitiveness of Regis, where else should I apply

U.S.A. Colorado

I recently got rejected from CU-denver, and am currently working on my application to Regis. I was just curious if anyone who is already a student could tell me their stats. I have a BA in integrative physiology with a 3.499 gpa, and my pre-req GPA is a 3.5. Any other ideas on where to apply? I want to get a BSN however, since I already have a BA, can i still apply to a graduate program with a ADN and BA?

Hi IphyGirl,

I got rejected from CU too. My next step is to apply to UNC next spring. You may want to consider talking to them as well because they also have a second degree program. I was told for the regular BSN program they start with the 4.0s and work their way down. However, I do not know what they do for 2nd degree people. You might be able to find out if the GPA is higher or even lower. For the regular program they said that 3.5 was the cut off but at that level is when they also look at the resume (and your degree specialty may be an asset).

They have one on one, walk-in, advising sessions about once a week until the first week of May. I would take your transcript there and talk to them.

As for an ASN and BA, I *think* you have to have a BSN to apply for an MSN program. You could always get your ASN and then take an online bridge program. I was looking at this an an option for myself as well.

Good luck with your Regis application, I have a friend who just got accepted there. It's a great school!

I got accepted at Regis and will start in a few weeks in their accelerated second Bachelor program. In fact, I turned down CU's admission offer for Regis.

Stats are 4.0 GPA prerequisites, 3.89 GPA first B.A., just under 1 year ED volunteer experience, EMT-B license. Regis is very selective in their admission process, but also seems to be an amazing school so far. From what I hear from other Regis students, it is more difficult to get into the accelerated than the regular BSN program. You will need 2 letters of recommendations for your application plus your essay. We are going to be a cohort of app. 50 people and twice as many were selected for interviews. You will then have an interview with one of the nursing staff, and decisions will be made after that. I was pretty impressed (and then worried lol) when I walked into the interview waiting area that day. It seemed that the quality of applicants was extremely high and everybody had incredible potential. The interview part is mainly, from my understanding, to see if you are a good fit for Regis. I would definitely recommend that you see an advisor in person. Their staff is extremely helpful and it will give you an idea of what the school is looking for.

Metro has an ADN to BSN bridge program.

I'm about to graduate from Metro's accelerated BSN program. It doesn't have the the reputation Regis and CU do, but I'm very happy with my decision to go there. I've been in clinicals with CU, Regis, and DSON students. My impression is that they will make great nurses, but I don't feel they have anything over me and my classmates. You might want to look into Metro's program.

EDIT: On closer inspection you are looking for an RN->MSN program where you also earn a BSN during it, right? I can't comment on that for any school...

I just got in for the traditional BSN program at Regis which is supposed to be as competitive as the accelerated.

I feel Regis definitely expects you to have done service and experience as well as excellent academics.

Here's my stats from the CU thread:

1. cum GPA: 3.7 or 3.8 depending how they calculated it... (A.S. degree in Biology and Chemistry GPA 3.9)

2. pre-req GPA: 3.9 (core prereq: 4.0)

3. Essay A "core value conflict": Talked about dealing with a patient from another culture whose choices went against my personal values, but why such things don't matter in heathcare as it isn't our place to judge, only to provide the best care to everyone.

Essay B "experience": Talked a lot about how I've lived in 12 places and visited over 20 countries, mostly in Central/South America, about my experiences treating underpriveleged at the community clinic, about my love for volunteerism, about my desire to be a community health or rural emergency nurse in Colorado.

Essay C "critical thinking": Talked about having to make hard triage decisions in a rural mass casualty incident with fatalities while on an ambulance with no backup.

4. Volunteer experience: 2 years volunteer clinical assistant at a community clinic serving the uninsured, 7 years search and rescue EMT and 7 years water rescue including medical leadership and field leadership positions

5. Prior work experience: 1 year as Director of Health Information Technology at a community clinic, 1.5 years on a rural 911 ambulance

My Regis essay was very much a reworking of essays A and B from CU.

I got into CSU-Pueblo's accelerated BSN program with a 3.4 overall GPA from my previous degree and a 3.3 pre-req GPA. Their only admission criteria is pre-req GPA; they start at 4.0 and work their way down. They accepted 32 candidates and I was one of the last to be chosen, but hey, I made it. :)
