Hi everyone,
Hubby and I just got back from a trip to the PHX area and we looked at houses in Laveen, Goodyear, and Glendale (Arrowhead). Anyone care to tell us the pros and cons of each area? We also liked Laveen (everything was new and a nice house with pool was $285,000), but getting there required driving through some very "gritty" areas. Of course, Laveen is pretty close to the airport where hubby would work. Also, does anyone know general per-diem rates for the hospitals. I was making $31.50 in Sierra Vista and was wondering if that is comparable or not. Thanks for any and all help!!!!!!!!

I think your per diem rate would be close, if not more than Sierra Vista. The last time I was in Laveen, (probably drove through about 7 years ago), it was pretty gritty.
I think Banner Estrella is your only option that far west. I am not sure if Goodyear even has a hospital.
If I was picking, the Arrowhead location is more convenient and closer to anything in Phoenix. If you lived in Arrowhead the commute to all the Phoenix major hospitals is possible.

For which hospitals? I agree, I think Banner Estrella (and it's a tiny one) is about the only hospital close to the areas you mentioned. We have a few people where I work that live out in Laveen and Goodyear, but they commute to Phx to work.
Most hospitals are pretty comparable pay wise though. I think you'll definitely make more than $31.50.

Goodyear is a growing area and would be nice to live in as well as the Arrowhead area. I don't know about the Laveen area. We have a lot of nurses from both areas that work at St Joe's (large Level 1 trauma center). Depending on your experience, you could make pretty good money in the Phoenix Area. What kind of nursing are you interested in?
