Anyone out there commute from Dallas to Fort Worth for nursing positions? I know people are going to discourage me from making the commute but I really want to stay in Dallas. I'm used to making a 35-40 min drive to work already. If I work a normal 7a-7p shift I would probably be missing the normal rush hour right? Thoughts? Anything welcome.

Where in Dallas to where in Ft Worth?
Sure downtown to downtown is around 30 miles, but could be 60 + miles depending on where exactly.
You need to decide on why you want to stay in Dallas. Home ownership? Family? Are these things worth a 2 hour (or more) commute every work day?
Me personally, I will never commute again if I can help it. I have had jobs that were 50 miles each way, and even with no traffic, it still was extra time out of my day, plus the cost of gas and wear and tear on my car.
I am now 3 miles from where I work and it is amazing. I have to be at work @ ~6:45, I leave my house @ 6:30 and have time to spare. Heck, it takes me longer to walk in and get upstairs than it does to drive there.
I have a friend who works at MD Anderson and was telling me all the benefits he gets, better pay, great support staff, bonus pay and more, but he sits in traffic almost 3 hours a day (hey, it is only 30 miles from Katy to the TMC), spends $50/month on tolls, $12/day on parking (or he can park in a remote lot for like $5 and ride the train in for another $1 each way) and who knows how much on gas. No thanks.
I drive 18 miles a week for work, free parking, no tolls and maybe 45 minutes a week driving (around 7 minutes each way).

I have several coworkers who commute to my place of employment in downtown Fort Worth. However, they commute because they have no other options. Our commuters are new grads who cannot find employment in Dallas, so they drive to Fort Worth to accrue that golden year of experience.

I do home dialysis. I live in Richardson and I have a pt in Burleson/Ft. Worth area. It takes me 50 minutes with no traffic, up to 2 hours when there is traffic. It's a mother, sometimes. However, I go during off-peak times, so usually no traffic unless I get held up. I also get gas reimbursement.

If the job is great and your happy at the workplace, then do it. Your the one who has to get up and go there everyday- if it makes you happy then that is what matters. I'd rather commute to a job I love, than drive a short distance to one I hate.
IMO.

I live in the Dallas area. Lewisville to be exact. If you can get a job where you don't have to commute, do it. Commuting from Dallas and Ft. Worth will get old.
