Communication issues...

Hi,

I am trying to get feedback on what you have found works in promoting collaboration and communication between nurses and aides. Currently there's a lot of drama going on in the facility, just wanted to hear what works in your department. Thanks.

My unit hires a lot of student nurses for CNA. Often they have a wish to work in the unit after graduation and are eager to make a good impression. No bad attitudes, no hiding out in the cafeteria for hours etc. A lot of CNA problems are solved with the right hires.

Hi,

I have found that if management is promoting collaboration successfully they are;

1) asking for professional opinions and recommendations,

2) listening acutely and seriously to the shared views,

3) valuing ALL views as being an important representation of professionalism in the department and staff,

4) developing concensus (please note difference between concensus and agreement)

Having the proper amount of staff might help. Might reduce the stress and frustration of an unrelenting and crushing workload which contributes to workplace drama. I know it's a novel idea, but give it a shot. Can't hurt to try!
