A thread for the Columbus State University fall 2016 applicants for the online family nurse practitioner program.
Hello,
Just wanted to say Hi and congrats....I will be graduating from CSU in May 2017 with my FNP. All in all, I am really enjoying the program. If you haven't begun already, line up your preceptors as soon as possible for all of your rotations. This will save you a lot of hassle in the future. Good luck!!
So far each semester has been difficult in it's own right. I would say there is a good balance of tests and papers. The programs tests are not open book and they are proctored. So far my favorite semester has been this past spring. I began "early" and took Pharm Summer of 2015. It was pretty difficult in 10 weeks, but I was glad I took it first. I also really enjoyed my first fall semester. I had Patho, health assessment, and clinical reasoning. Clinical reasoning is "how to think like a provider" it is a GREAT class and helps to bridge the gap between RN and provider. My instructor for this class was AWESOME, however, she is no longer with CSU . I had adult health in the Spring of 2016. That class was my favorite because the course was the "bulk" of info needed for clinicals. I am currently in my last week of the Summer semester and it has by far been the most difficult to schedule. Two classes (research and Elderly health) in 10 weeks plus 135 clinical hours.....tough..... Really looking forward to Fall with Peds and Women's health, then the home stretch in Jan 2017.....
The program has you in clinicals every semester which is great because you learn so much. All the classes have been similar as far as discussions vs "papers" vs tests. The best/worst thing is that the tests are not open book so you really have to know your stuff!!! They are difficult and what one should expect for a master's level...
Remember when you take boards you must KNOW the info....you will have no book or resource...
Good Luck

I was just accepted so here's what I know so far. It's fully online, you have to find preceptors and its in conjunction with Georgia Southwestern so some of the courses are taken through them but your degree will say CSU. Its 2 years full time, and that's every semester for 2 years (no summers off
) Tuition for this summer for 2 courses for me was around 2500 with fees and for the whole program it's going to be around 20k if my calculations are right.
