Columbia University MDE 2017

Published

Hi everyone!

First of all, I would like to congratulate everyone who has been accepted into the next starting cohort for this program! :D

I am starting this super early because I have already begun to freak out lol.

Is anyone applying for the MDE MDE/DNP or MDE/PHD program for 2017?

This is my dream program !!

I am prepping for the GRE at this point which I am taking in August. It has been a long arduous road for me to say the least and I am ready to send my app off with a prayer. Any advice from current/previous students of this program or applicants welcome! And to my fellow applicants what other programs are you applying to? And most importantly good luck to everyone. The application opens August of 2016 :D

Yep for the video essay. I tend to ramble so I wrote down a few keywords I wanted to use so I didn't get sidetracked. I think you get like 3 tries to re-do it.

Hi!

I'm applying to the Columbia program for admission next fall. I'm not sure if I should apply for the MDE or the MDE/DNP program. Ultimately I want to achieve the DNP status in my educational pursuits, but I don't know which avenue I wish to pursue.

Does anybody know how competitive the MDE is versus the MDE/DNP track?

What types of recommendations are y'all getting? I'm having my current boss, a woman I volunteer with, and a former employer/professor.

Thanks!

You can apply to the MDE / DNP and if they don't accept you for the DNP, you can still be accepted into the MDE portion.

I'm currently finishing up the first semester of MDE. Going on to the DNP next fall. Last final of summer semester tomorrow woooo (I should be studying now).

A bunch of people in my cohort were not accepted to the DNP but we're accepted for the MDE - there is an internal application process for the DNP and you can reapply if you were denied or apply fresh if you just applied for MDE and decided to go the DNP route. From what I've heard the internal application process is pretty straight forward

Hey! I'm applying for the 2017 start as well! Adult-Gero Acute Care (or FNP) but with a subspecialty of Women's Health in mind! I'm currently studying to take the GRE next month (hahaha) and working on the app essays. I'll be a senior this year graduating in May.

Question on the video essay - it says 2 minutes to answer both questions. Should I take that at face value, or do we actually get 2 minutes PER question? just seems like such a short time to articulate my awesomeness.

I suppose lack of response means that I may have been the only one wondering about this - but just in case, I've now completed it and it was indeed 120 seconds total to answer the two questions. I guess they're not interested in listening to all of us prattle on for 5 minutes!

And now the long wait.

Thanks to you and others for clarifying the video essay portion. I am going to finish my application this week and settle in for the long wait as well. Best of luck to everybody!

I wonder why the wait time between application deadline (October) and admission decisions (February) is so much longer than other colleges?
