Columbia University MDE 2017

Published

Hi everyone!

First of all, I would like to congratulate everyone who has been accepted into the next starting cohort for this program! :D

I am starting this super early because I have already begun to freak out lol.

Is anyone applying for the MDE MDE/DNP or MDE/PHD program for 2017?

This is my dream program !!

I am prepping for the GRE at this point which I am taking in August. It has been a long arduous road for me to say the least and I am ready to send my app off with a prayer. Any advice from current/previous students of this program or applicants welcome! And to my fellow applicants what other programs are you applying to? And most importantly good luck to everyone. The application opens August of 2016 :D

I'm not sure how much I can say because I honestly though I had no chance of getting in (I did get in though and am attending the MDE/DNP for psych). But from my personal experience I would say get clinical experience in the specialty you are interested in; I would also suggest having a supervisor from that clinical experience write one of your letters of rec. And for the essays really research the healthcare field and where nursing is headed so you have things to discuss. As for the video essays, I thought I did a terrible job on them because I hate being on camera, but I think just being yourself and not rehearsing too much will work.

How is everyone justifying spending 400k for this program lolol? Just wondering. It doesn't seem like they're offering much aid unfortunately.

People who were accepted off the waitlist, when is the deadline for you to accept your spots?

And congratulations! :)

I think I'm doing Yale though so who knows you may get a call soon

Hey guys! For those that were accepted, do you know if a 3.4 or 3.5 GPA is okay for the FNP DNP program at Columbia (assuming my recs and personal statement are good)? I am thinking about retaking one of the prereqs, so I was wondering if the new grade in the course replaces the first one in the GPA?

Yes they will take your highest grade and GRE score I believe.

Is a 3.4 GPA too low to be accepted into the PNP/DNP program?

Hi. If you don't mind, what were your stats?

Talking with people, it seems there's no exact formula to go by. Almost all the people I met had stellar applications. However, I did meet a guy who applied this year that had a low GPA, hadn't taken a single prerequisite yet, and had zero medical experience. I assume he must have had a great GRE, recommendations, and essays...although I can't confirm that. So, basically, I don't think they look at any single thing.

What would you say is a low GPA? I'm worried about my gpa of 3.45. It is pretty low but I am looking into retaking a prereq. The admissions said they do not calculate a new GPA with the new grade but they will look at the new grade.

Unfortunately I think that's all you have to go by. Maybe on their site or one of their info sessions they can provide more ideas on their admissions stats. I have no idea what they'd consider a low GPA. I'd consider in May setting up a meeting with their admissions.
