Columbia University MDE 2017

Published

Hi everyone!

First of all, I would like to congratulate everyone who has been accepted into the next starting cohort for this program! :D

I am starting this super early because I have already begun to freak out lol.

Is anyone applying for the MDE MDE/DNP or MDE/PHD program for 2017?

This is my dream program !!

I am prepping for the GRE at this point which I am taking in August. It has been a long arduous road for me to say the least and I am ready to send my app off with a prayer. Any advice from current/previous students of this program or applicants welcome! And to my fellow applicants what other programs are you applying to? And most importantly good luck to everyone. The application opens August of 2016 :D

msjonesinc123, when you spoke with admissions and they told you the waitlist is "very short" who did you speak with? What did they say to you?

I am currently looking in to on-campus graduate housing, at least for the first year. I would be moving from Portland and I think it would be too much to try and figure out housing so far away on top of everything else.

There are quite a few options for students plus they give a high priority to students the farther west they are traveling from, so that's good for us I suppose!

Do you know if the graduate housing is available for people with a spouse and animals? Probably a long shot....

We are coming from Seattle and honestly the rent prices are not that much more than Seattle....but still want to make sure I have as much information as possible.

if i accept, I'll be moving from Seattle. I know NYC housing is going to be incredibly expensive- anyone considering on campus graduate housing? I haven't looked into the cost but plan to do more research soon.

I will be moving from Seattle too (if I decide on Columbia). I don't think graduate housing will work for me as I am moving with my boyfriend, a dog, and a cat. However, I found decent 1 bed 1 bath places in the Upper East Side for around $2000-2500. I feel like Seattle rent has softened the blow of NYC housing sticker shock, because it is not that much more expensive than Seattle. I got the impression from what I have read that graduate housing is more expensive than sharing an off campus apartment.

Hey @ilovecorgis (I do too!)

If you look closer to the nursing campus you can find 1 bedrooms for even cheaper than that. There was one in my building for $1850, and it's a great building/area. I've seen others close by in the same price range. If you like I can send you my broker's info -- he is fantastic.

It's crazy that Seattle is just as nuts as NYC. Wow.

I will be coming from Seattle and also looking into on campus housing for the first year!

Yes please!!! My email is [email protected]

I am going to be in NYC early March to scope things out before making any final decisions.

Thanks!

Hello everyone !

I'm new to the forum and found this thread ! I too was accepted into the MDE program. Does anyone know the size of our class ?

Hello all! Just found out I was accepted to the MDE/DNP (acute care program). I am so excited. I'm still in shock. Unfortunately, I'm super concerned about finding a way to pay for it, so I'm not sure it'll be a possibility.

Does anyone know about deferment?

Was anyone else who was accepted into the DNP Acute Care told they would need a year of clinicals prior to starting the DNP?

For anyone who was not accepted - if this is your dream, DON'T GIVE UP! I was rejected last year, did aome adjusting, reapplied, and now I'm celebrating!!

New to the forum.

Congratulations to everyone that got accepted!

I was waitlisted, the wait continues.Good luck to my fellow waitlisted applicants.

Hi there! Excited to see another accepted MDE/DNP for acute care on here :) I am as well and was wondering the same thing about the 1 year of work in between. My understanding is that this is a new addition to the Acute Care track this year based on feedback for the clinical and residency placements and making sure DNPs are fully prepared given how intense this specialty is. I plan to ask about more specific details on exact timing during visiting day. -- is it 12 months from the end of the MDE? or is there a specific date by which you have to start the DNP portion?

I do remember them saying during an info session I went to in the fall that deferments were not generally granted. Don't give up on the financing yet, we still have to wait for the financial aid packages later this month!

I would love your broker's information! I'll be moving from San Francisco

Thanks for the info. Excited to meet everyone on visiting day!
