Columbia University MDE/DNP - Summer 2026

Published

Did a search and haven't seen this thread yet. Thought I would get it going! Submitted my application November 4th and now just waiting to hear back.

Has anyone received an interview/phase 2 invite or something saying their application has moved to the next round for Columbia?

Not to my knowledge. But I don't believe they do them for MDE applicants. I'm a combined MDE-DNP applicant and am under the impression that it will move straight to decision.

Nothing on my end yet.  I've only seen interview/phase 2 related actions for the CRNA applicants from digging around other threads and forums.  Perhaps there isn't one for non-CRNA programs?

Update:

"Due to unforeseen circumstances with our new application system, our review process has been slightly delayed. Priority decisions are expected to be released in mid-January.

We appreciate your patience as we are reviewing applications. I hope you enjoy the holidays!”

@NSS0147 was right.... What a bummer.

Also, I wonder if BS/MSN to DNP decisions will be pushed back too since, if I'm reading this right, this email is pertaining to MDE?

I think it applies to all priority deadline decisions that had the 11/17 deadline. But I could be wrong.

That's my original thought too.  Hmm, well if that's the case, then I won't be surprised if DNP only decisions are in late January since their priority deadline was December 1.

Also, while I want every single person here to earn an offer of admission, SamIAm26 deserves a full ride for doing all the dirty work and digging for us all here regarding what's going on with the admissions committee #facts

Haha! I appreciate that, thank you! But @PYLesq was right there with me emailing them for a response!

I had to send my final official transcript with my pre-reqs and dropped a line to let them know it was on the way, while simultaneously asking about when to expect decisions. Bahahaha

Good morning! I saw your earlier post about updating transcripts after submitting your application.

So my Fall 2025 prereq grade just posted and I'm trying to update my transcript, but admissions is probably on holiday break right now so I'm not sure how to do it. When you did yours, did you just upload the new PDF in the application portal under "Upload Materials,” or did they tell you a different way?

Also thank you so much for always emailing and keeping everyone updated!

They told me to use the upload materials function!

Thank you! I'll do the same. Happy holidays to you and your family too!

Just wanted to wish everyone Happy Holidays! (Despite the disappointment of a delayed response from CUSON).

This is so so so insightful. Thank you.

Do you mind elaborating on students who had a target on their back? What did they do?! That sounds awful...

If admitted, I'll have had a background as an attorney and law school was also extremely tough and peers were not helpful - they'd try to sabotage you. There was a ton of cheating on exams, gate-keeping exam banks,  gate-keeping supplements that could help study for exams, etc. You would walk into class friendly and think others want to be your friend as well, but they would turn their backs and take advantage of your kindness... Is nursing school the same? I don't want a repeat of law school - it's why I'm leaving the profession (no one actually cares about you & the profession itself is toxic!)

So, many of the students actually didn't do anything but were viewed as a "liability" because it was thought that they could negatively impact the relationship with clinical sites. Mind you, a lot of former clinical sites have actually refused to work with CUSON because they took issue with our admins and the disorganization and poor communication. So I think coming into our year there was already heightened sensitivity about clinical relationships. There were a number of preceptors who had long standing histories of being emotionally abusive to students. While it didn't occur to me directly, stories I heard and events I witnessed were pretty disturbing and repugnant. When students complained it was turned around to them as being viewed as unfit or having some character flaw and the school always took the side of the preceptor and pushed disciplinary action against the student in some shape or form. There was a lot of retaliation (ex: a student confided in the school social worker and the admin caught wind of it and said "now I have to clean up this mess you made". There was one preceptor who had years of documented emotional abuse (some students actually developed mental health disorders after rotations with her), and it wasn't until a professor doing a site visit heard her call a student "a stupid B****h" that she was finally terminated (this professor was awesome btw). That's kind of the general gist. Most of the professors were awesome but the admin is a major issue and gaslight a lot. Many of the professors are former alum and in not so many words will regularly try to empathize with students that they understand what they're going through with the admin.

I think there's gunners in every cohort but honestly I think they are usually in the minority. With the exception of the cohort that just graduated, I have seen and heard that most cohorts were largely collaborative and tried to support one another. In my own experience, I found my cohort to be very supportive, collaborative and resourceful.

MDE and DNP do not have interviews. Only CRNA and PhD does.
