Hey everyone. I was just wondering who applied to Columbia University's ETP program.
I got an email today telling me to keep logging into the website where I applied to check on the status of my application. Has anyone else got this email? And does anyone know approximately when they begin to post decisions?
I'm nervous as this was my #2 school.
Does anyone know how large the classes sizes are? I know that the lectures are huge, but I don't remember what they said about the clinicals and the lab groups.
I'm pretty sure that clinical groups are 8 and lab groups I *think* are the same (ie, if you are group 8, you are in that group for labs and clinical). I have a vague memory though of lab groups being 5 but that could be me getting different schools crossed. I think 8 is the number to remember though.
Hello all,
I've been reading your posts as you've gone through the Columbia application procedure. I am one year behind you--planning to apply in the fall. Maybe you have already thought about this but it would be great for those of us following in your footsteps to hear how the first year goes. Obviously you will all be very busy but an occasional update on a separate thread--"2009-2010 Columbia ETP experiences"?--would be fantastic. I, and I'm sure many others, would love to hear how the summer session goes. Whether your experiences match (and hopefully exceed) your expectations. Good luck with wherever you chose to go to school and good luck in your first year!
Here is a posting from a colleague in my anthro department about housing...
My room is coming available April 1. If you hear of anyone looking for a short-term (and potentially long-term) lease, please feel free to tell them. It would be ideal for graduate students or internationals (my roommates teach english & italian), or anyone who enjoys good food :-) (inside scoop: rent is negotiable)
peace!

Hi! I'm a current ETP student.. one of my friends asked me if I could help him advertise his apartment for this coming summer.
He's a MPH student at Columbia:
1 bedroom in a 3 bedroom apartment across the street from where all your classes will be on the Columbia campus. All 3 bedrooms will be empty this summer but only one of them is rentable, the other two doors will be locked and cannot be rented out. Its a huge apartment, super convenient and you also have a large living room. The view is amazingg.. He's asking for $729/month. PM me if you are interested and I'll pass along his email address :)

Hi alc137,
I got your message, but I guess I haven't posted enough times to send private messages yet... So yeah, I was deciding between UCLA and Columbia. I went to UCLA for undergrad, and had family & friends in the area, so I definitely had a big pull there! But in the end, I made my decision based on my future: With the UCLA MECN program you come out an RN with a Master's degree, and with the Columbia ETP program, you come out an NP (w/ a 2nd bachelor's degree, RN license, & a master's degree). I graduated from the BS/RN portion of Columbia this year, and I really do enjoy it. You'll find downsides to every program. I think Columbia's downsides have just been more prominently displayed online, haha. Anyway, so my advice comes down to this: do you want to be an RN w/ a master's degree or an NP? Once you figure that out, you'll have your answer! Good luck on your decision! :)

btw- i realized i didn't respond to your question on this post! clinical groups have 8 ppl, sometimes one group will have 7. (but 8 really is not that big- i got a lot of personal attention from my preceptor). in skills lab we were split up into groups of 3-4. in our rotation classes (they start after summer session) we had about 30 people per class- it'll just depend on the size of your incoming class. lectures are with everyone. feel free to ask if you have any other questions!
I am currently finishing up my 1st summer (1st semester) of the ETP program. We have a record # of people enrolled, just under 200 (14 of them being male, such as myself). I heard that they had just under 600 applications that means that 1 out of 3 people who applied were accepted. Good chance in my opinion.
The summer was rough but worth it, lots of classes, not much time to explore the city but now it's over and done with. Today was out last final and time for celebration is on.
I'd be happy to answer any questions people may have regarding the class, though for some reason I don't think i can private msg so it'll just have to be on this thread directly in response to this post.
I'm getting ready for 5x5's which is excited to learn more about the different areas of nursing. I, myself, am acute care and my clinical experience was wonderful so far.
Good luck in the applications!
