Columbia University ETP Program 2013

The thread here for the Columbia University ETP program for entry in 2012 is pretty long (45 pages right now!), so I was hoping to elicit some of the same responses for those who are applying in 2013. Let's get to know each other!

Why are you applying to Columbia? What have you heard about the program- good, bad or ugly? Are you nervous, excited, ambivalent?

I completely agree. I didn't really even investigate any of the other specialties and if they accepted the max number for ever specialty I don't know if I want to attend and just wait and hope a spot comes available. Eeeeeep!

yea, I emailed asking if we can reapply to that specialty later on or if there any other options to get in. we'll see...at least we got into the BSN portion! :)

@jdp085 true. Are you considering the option of switching specialties? I'm nervous about moving and starting the program with no guarantee of a specialty.

I asked admissions what the process is for switching specialties, if I decide to. At this point, I am not too interested in switching, but you never know how the first year will go. I could change my mind! Most of the other schools I applied to do not even have the Anesthesia option (I would have to apply after an Accelerated BSN/entry MSN and work experience) so I shouldn't be too worried...

I got in for FNP too! I can't believe it! I can finally stop stressing out over getting into school, haha. If there are any current FNP students here, I would love to hear your guys's perspectives on the program! :)

@jdp085 Well from my research Columbia is the only one with the Anesthesia specialty for alternate entry. I applied and was accepted to the University of Texas at Austin for the Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist program. I feel like we are kind of in Limbo....good enough for the ETP, but not good enough for the Anesthesia...I'll take being good enough for Columbia University :)

haha well...not being good enough for one of the most competitive specialties, but still getting into Columbia is still pretty great!!! I'll post if I get any more info. Congrats to everyone who got in :)

in for midwifery too :) So... I haven't heard many good things about Columbia's program. From bad clinicals, NYC hospitals not wanting to hire Columbia nurses, to a student who withdrew from the program last year (midwifery specialty) because of the unsupportive faculty. Has anyone heard anything good from the program at all? (Besides that it's in awesome NY!)

I heard that almost everyone gets grant money. I've heard that their new labs are nice. And some of the professors are great (I guess like most schools...some are good and some are bad). It's nice that they help you find housing if you don't get into their on campus housing and the BSN portion is quick.
