Hello!
I know this is a bit early, but I'm planning to apply to the apply to the Columbia Entry to Practice Program (among a few others) this fall. I've seen similar forums for past application periods, and thought it might be nice to get one started so we can start to bounce ideas and questions off each other.
Has anyone been to an open house? Any information worth sharing?
Hi Lato,I don't think they give us any other updates. It's all been pretty general. This morning, I received an email saying that my application has moved on from the initial admission assessment to faculty admission review. That's pretty much it though.
Fingers crossed! Hopefully we all hear back soon with good news.
Did you apply for MDE/DNP or MDE alone?
I am kind of bummed out I was rejected from SUNY Stony Brook and LIU Brooklyn--mind you I actually graduated from SUNY Stony Brook, my undergraduate GPA was 2.5 because I was caring for an elderly parent throughout my college career, but I got my master's in Psychology with a 3.4 average while doing my prerequisites for nursing....I have a 3.5 overall for my prerequisites I am praying for entry somewhere..kind of sad
I completely understand your situation as I'm in a similar boat. Undergraduate GPA 2.6 ( life happened), MS in public health 3.7 and nursing prerequisites 4.0. Unfortunately, a lot of weight is given to undergraduate GPA. I've applied to multiple schools, including community colleges. It's so competitive out there and I hope you get in somewhere.
I applied to the MDE program as well. I attended an info session in late October and was told that decisions would be released in February.. sorry if that disappoints those who are hoping to hear sooner!! I also applied to the NYU BSN program and they have pushed back the decision date so many times already, it's so frustrating.
I also got the email that my application had moved through the initial screening and that they would keep us updated with where we are in the process!! Good luck to all, can't wait to hear when decisions start coming out.

Hi tinyswimmer,
Does it mean anything if we passed the initial review? or does everybody pass the initial review. I just got my email that I passed it yesterday, while I saw that others passed earlier than I did.
Hey, I recently completed the ETP and thought I'd offer support to those waiting to hear back. I am also willing to debunk any myths about the program. Happy Holidays and try to forget that you applied... I know, hard to do. :-) Hopefully, they will get back to you all in a timely fashion.
Hello, and thank you for providing a much needed support. Can you tell us how difficult the program was, or was it easier than you expected, and what you did to adjust your study patterns in order to excel in this program. Also, looking back is there anything you wish you would have known going in that you would recommend to future students..

My pleasure. I'm sorry about the delayed response. I was finishing up a paper that I had to hand in. Then, Christmas came... :-)
I think that that program is quite intense, as is expected in an accelerated nursing program. You are learning the fundamental nursing while taking advanced courses. You will finish the fundamental nursing with an impressive knowledge base. I tend to front load my studying. Therefore, I found myself stressing out during the "lulls", but relaxed for the exams. I don't think the work is particularly difficult, but it is 2-3 years of information that you are cramming in one year. You start clinical immediately and the clinical instructors are pretty intense. I live rather far from campus. Commuting is tough, because of the high amount of commuters and their aggressive mentality. If you can, try to live close to campus. It isn't too expensive, especially if you have a roommate or two.
Feel free to ask questions, I will do my best to stay tuned.
