Hello!
I know this is a bit early, but I'm planning to apply to the apply to the Columbia Entry to Practice Program (among a few others) this fall. I've seen similar forums for past application periods, and thought it might be nice to get one started so we can start to bounce ideas and questions off each other.
Has anyone been to an open house? Any information worth sharing?
Hey Nbssr18, I think one of us has to start the group. I have never started a Facebook group and I was trying to but it looks like I would need everyone to send me their email or full name so I could add them. I may be doing this all wrong. Does someone else want to start the group who knows how to do it better?
If no one else is up for the job then I need people to send me their full names or email addresses that are linked to Facebook.
I just made it public. Realized it starts you out as a private group. Group title is as stated above: Columbia University MDE/DNP 2016
Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1369127783104754/
Hopefully, it works this time!

Hey everyone!
Regarding the question about "why columbia vs. other schools," I would have to say that at this point Columbia is my first choice because it offers not only a MSN (instead of a BSN or Certificate as other programs have) and its a DNP program vs. just a NP program. I am waiting for the admitted students day to make a decision because I want to get an idea of what Columbia Nursing is like to be a student at (what the vibe is etc.).
Furthermore, regarding another post, I would not recommend having a car in manhattan as you would likely have to pay for a monthly parking pass at a garage. It can be very difficult to find street parking. I know that people in my neighborhood who have cars sometimes spend over 2 hours looking for street parking! The public transportation here is so good that is really unnecessary to have a car to get around the new york city area.
Regarding the post about our backgrounds: I have a Bachelors in research psychology from a small liberal arts college (4.0 GPA), and a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Columbia (4.0 GPA). I did not have to take the GRE since I have a Masters. I have volunteered in Community health clinics for the past 2 1/2 years and have been involved in research for the past 3 years (with conference presentations etc). All my recommendations came from Professors (though I had "worked" with one of them for 2 years in research as well). Not sure if this will help anyone. I don't necessarily think comparisons will help people know whether they are a competitive candidate or not. I think that admissions can sometimes be arbitrary. Most people who apply to these school have good grades, etc., and admissions may just want to diversify by having people with many different life experiences.
FutrRN85, your background seems really impressive and competitive! I have no idea how you did not get in!
Also wondering when we find out the financial aid info. Does Columbia have merrit scholarships? Any info on this would be much appreciated:)
