U.S.A. New York

Hey Y'all!

I'm getting ready to apply to the Columbia's ETP for 2010. I was just wondering who else was applying and what you were doing to make your application stronger! Also where else are you applying and what do your stats look like (GPA, GRE, experience, etc) ? I'm getting nervous as I start the whole application process and just thought I'd turn to the forums for some support and guidance!

I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with y'all! Hope to hear from you soon! :)

hey hell0ooonurse, Congratulation on getting accepted into Columbia ETP program! :yeah:

It's so late already I can't believe they are still admitting students. its rather irresponsible, the timing is ridiculous. Feels like they r just going for more money now, since last time i spoke with them, they said they were already satisfied with the amount of students admitted.

Anyways, unless ur ridiculously rich, it will be very hard for you to settle down in such a short time. :twocents:

Anyone still looking for a room mate?

Hellonurse yes you can do it .it won't be easy but you can- if the school verifies your fafsa I don't see why securing fed loans even if unsubsidized will be a prob - colboa should have an efficient financial aid office so I'd get in touch with them first as that's the most p

important and potentially taxing part of you. I'm a new mom yet to embark on pre reqs for Columbia but as a Scottish woman that moved to NY fresh and clueless 8 yrs ago I can advise you on accomodation. I have lived in Harlem ten blocks from Columbia for the past four years. There are Columbia students in my building in this mainly Spanish area - Dominicans and Puerto Ricans, they are friendly and respectful by and large and keen to holla at a pretty girl but nothing intimidating! My husband and son are Dominican, I am obviously Scottish and people treat me nice here we live uptown from 125 th st, below 125th is mainly Columbia students but the catch is it's way more pricey, if you wanna live right next to Columbia expect to pay $1200 a month plus for a modest room utilities included, of you live uptown from 125th you can find something nice and more roomy for $800 a month utilities included - I'm talking about one room here not a studio. Make sure you look for apartments on west side, it's a really pretty area and riverside is wonderful for jogging walks and bike rides. There's plenty of bars restaurants and drug stores on broadway close by and unusual for NY there's a large fairway supermarket close on 130th and twefth ave. The area is well connected to all the fun night life spots and good shops downtown with the one two and three trains which run reliably compared to other lines. My mom visits me here and she feels ok walking round as an older Scottosh woman who stands out! my family are from north cal and they love NY, consider the move and message me if you need any advice re getting an aparent and reasonable areas and prices :)

Just an FYI, the medical center campus, where the nursing school is located, is on 168th Street not 116th street where the main campus is located.

Ok sooo, I just got an email notifying me that I was accepted to the ETP Program for 2010. I was waitlisted forever as well, but this is ridiculous notice. I too had already made plans to attend another university and am now just wondering about Columbia. They want my deposit by Wednesday (less than 24 hours!!) and the program starts in 2 weeks!! How am I supposed to find out about financial aid and figure out how to pay for everything in 2 weeks?!! Luckily I'm from Jersey so if I do decide to attend I can just commute to the city but SHEESH!!

HEY GUYS, I am new to this forum but I am considering of applying to ETP program in Columbia . Does anyone have any insights as far as program goes? I have BS in biology, 3.45 overall GPA and 3.9 science GPA ...Thank you ...any responce will be appreciate it

Hi,

I know this thread is really old and all of you guys must be studying hard at Columbia. I was interested in applying to the ETP-Nurse Anesthesia. Can anyone who got in to the CRNA speciality share your stats. with me through a private message or e-mail ([email protected]). I heard this is the most competitve speciality and there are only about five people chosen out of 50 who apply so I don't even know if I should apply. If one of you could share your GPA/GRE score/ ECs you did to get in, I would appreciate it.

hey KHNurse2B. you pm'ed me; however, i can't write you back privately as i don't have enough posts. if you want to pm me again and give me your email address i'd be happy to answer your questions.

Hi! I'm currently in Columbia's ETP program so if you have any questions just post them and I'll be happy to answer

Hi,

I was curious as to how the MSN portion of the program works. Do you go straight into your program after completing the one-year BSN portion or do you have to work for a year before going on? I am specifically interested in the acute care np program. Thanks for any information.

You can do either, depending on your masters program. Some have to work at least a year (anesthesia), others are more open to personal preference. The program directors for each program tend to encourage different things.

Acute specifically encourages you to both work full time right out of school, and simultaneously continue on with your masters full time. It's a very practically oriented program so I've heard this combo works well. Before clinicals start the acute people have class two days a week so its very doable. Off the top of my head I know the pedes lead encourages not working and going straight through, the family encourages people work, etc. So it's all over the map

This is a way old forum, but it looks like there are some recent posts. Any current Columbia students want to share their experience in the ETP? I have heard mixed things -- negative and positive. I'm waiting on decisions from Yale and Columbia right now and have had wonderful experiences with everyone involved at Yale but don't know much about Columbia. Any info would be super helpful.

Hi guys,

If you are looking for recent info on the program there is a forum for this year's applicants on which a few current ETP students have answered questions. You can find it here: https://allnurses.com/ny-nursing-programs/columbia-university-etp-490834.html

Good luck!
