Hey Y'all!
I'm getting ready to apply to the Columbia's ETP for 2010. I was just wondering who else was applying and what you were doing to make your application stronger! Also where else are you applying and what do your stats look like (GPA, GRE, experience, etc) ? I'm getting nervous as I start the whole application process and just thought I'd turn to the forums for some support and guidance!
I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with y'all! Hope to hear from you soon! :)

I got at least some of the information today. Based on my fafsa I got the scholarship (phew). The emails says lender information still to come, but on my financial breakdown it basically had their estimates for tuition and cost of living, minus my expected family contribution (noted on your summary fafsa page), and minus the scholarship. I am assuming the loan information will be to cover the remaining total left they had calculated for me. Based on the previous information it was exactly as I expected it to look. Now I guess we just wait for the lender info and then apply for loans (and hope interest rates don't balloon in the next few years!). It looks like as long as your fafsa is complete that is all you need to provide for now. Great to finally have this info!
There is not an application for the SON scholarship, so no worries as long as your ETC (from the FAFSA) is less than 76K. I actually just got an email stating that I was awarded the SON scholarship and all I have done is fill out the FAFSA. There will NOT be enough federal loans (which is all that would be included in the financial aid offer) to cover the rest, so you'll need to find other private loans to bridge the gap.
I can second sportsgirlly,
I received an email from the director of financial aid saying I'd gotten the scholarship and should log in to see it. Only the scholarship info is available right now, not the federal aid. BethNP, you can always call the financial aid office if you want to follow-up. They have been really helpful and available when I call.
i'll copy-and-past the text of the message i was sent, which may be of help to you. :-)....
we are aware that there have been some issues with logging in to view the scholarship letters. we have received notice that you are not listed as a first time user to the system. please disregard the previous instructions to click the "first time user" link. instead, input your columbia student id number, from a previous e-mail, as your student id. then input your birthday as the pin in the following format, mmddyyyy. below you will find the url:
https://studentviewer.finaid.columbia.edu/
student id: c########
pin: your date of birth(mmddyyyy)
after you input this data, please click submit. following this process you will be prompted to a number of security questions and will then have access to view your scholarship. if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us 212-305-8147.
kind regards,

For financial aid/scholarship you can go to this site: https://studentviewer.finaid.columbia.edu/
Once there enter your CUID and then for password its mmddyyyy(so 2 digit month, 2 digit day, 4 digit year)
The government info is not loaded yet but the scholarship stuff is in there if it was awarded to you.
To anyone still looking for a place, I have a room available in my 3BR apt. Both of us are in the ETP program and are hoping to find someone to move in April 1st, but it can be somewhat negotiable. We moved from CA, so we definitely know how hard it can be to find a place when you are all the way out there. This would be such a perfect set up since the room can be fully furnished. If anyone is interested, please check out my post: http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/roo/1661281581.html.

quick question everyone, i know there's the SON scholarship, but does it come automatically when we file for FAFSA? or is it separate and we have to write a paper about it and turn it in?
also, because i've never done loans before, after filing for FAFSA, do they offer enough loans to you to cover all the tuition and expenses? or would i have to go out to banks to find my own?
