Average pay for experienced med-Surg but new to HH nurse
Hey everyone, i I just moved to Southern California form New York and I'm tying to find a per diem home health job. I have 2 years of inpatient med-Surg experience but no HH experience. A small and new agency approached me and offered me per diem RN job but they only offer me $40 each visit and $50 for initial evals, driving usually take 30-40 minutes each way, and mileage is not reimbursed. I don't know what the average pay is and don't want to be taken advantage of. I know HH nurses get pay per visit, but I don't know if this rate is too low. Can somebody give me some advise? Or from their personal experience how I can approach this? Thanks in advance

Columbia ETP 2010
hey, we are consider as a undergrad this first year right? so the federal loan interest will be 4.5% then. correct? Also, the message from the federal loans, it's the exam same thing for subsidized and unsubized. i thought unsubsized means interest is accuring while you're in school, but both of them says no interest if you're at least a half-time student. why is that? Lastly, does anyone know what the policies and interest rates are for the student private loan on the finaid package? there's nothing on there about the private loan. Thanks everyone.

Columbia ETP 2010
how come FAid doesn't have anything explanations on the private loans?? what the interest rate? I think the 6.8% for the unsubsidized federal loan is really high. Anybody got lower rates anywhere else? also... what exactly is the UNI? isn't that the same as our Student ID number that starts with C00......??

i did my fafsa... but no respond about SON scholarship. super worried. tried calling the financial aid office a few times, but no one is there. so i left 2 msgs with no reply. how come i never got the email regarding SON scholarship???
-
Columbia ETP 2010
quick question everyone, i know there's the SON scholarship, but does it come automatically when we file for FAFSA? or is it separate and we have to write a paper about it and turn it in? also, because i've never done loans before, after filing for FAFSA, do they offer enough loans to you to cover all the tuition and expenses? or would i have to go out to banks to find my own?

what neighborhood is safe to live in?

Columbia ETP 2010
hrm. interesting. then i guess i'll just turn in my housing application, and hope i'll win the lottery. I assume Bard Hall is the closest building to the School of Nursing. I was looking at the rates for student housing, and they're averaging $700/month... is it any cheaper off campus?

Columbia ETP 2010
thanks for the quick update. I live around the bay area in California... how do i proceed to find off campus housing? craigslist? i wish there's a student housing listing. i'll feel safer to look for off campus housing there.... Also, if anyone can help me with this: i was on the columbia webpage, http://cait.cumc.columbia.edu:88/dept/nursing/admissions/index.html# and i saw a tab on the left that said "Accepted Applicants" so i went under there and clicked on ETP students. But i can't log in with my admissions username and password. is there a special code for it? i thought maybe there's be some centralized system of what we have turned in and what we haven't turned in yet.
