Columbia ETP 2010

Published

Hey Y'all!

I'm getting ready to apply to the Columbia's ETP for 2010. I was just wondering who else was applying and what you were doing to make your application stronger! Also where else are you applying and what do your stats look like (GPA, GRE, experience, etc) ? I'm getting nervous as I start the whole application process and just thought I'd turn to the forums for some support and guidance!

I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with y'all! Hope to hear from you soon! :)

Hello all,

Well, my app. is in, with all materials. Does anyone have any idea when we will starting hearing about admissions decisions? Honestly, I would love to get into Johns Hopkins, but I currently live and work in NYC, so I can't help but think how nice it would be NOT to have to relocate.

Also, for those out-of-towners considering a move to NYC, the cost of living can really be minimized if you rent a room or do a house-share thing. The neighborhood is not THE best, but I do know alot of people who live there and are pretty happy/feel safe. It's a big plus to be nearby, since commuting in NYC can be time-consuming and stressful!

Also nice- you don't need a car to get around, and with so many colleges in the city, there are a lot of free/low cost things to do (if you ever have time)

Good luck to everyone!

ooh i hope to be in your i-finished-my-application boat by the end of the weekend. good luck.

Hey All!

So after much consideration, I decided that even after the scholarship, there would be no way I could pay for Columbia! :( So I didn't apply! I'm paying off my undergrad loans right now and it's tough! Maybe I can work or teach at Columbia in the future! I'm hoping I get into Marquette..It's more affordable for me!

Good luck to everyone who is applying to Columbia!! Deadline's fast approaching!

I'm at Marquette. I have some issues with it. Def. cheaper, though I often question whether I would be getting a better education at Columbia, and that it would be worth paying for. Right now I feel like I'm still paying a lot, and only getting about 50% back as far as quality of teaching, etc. Good luck tho :)

I would be curious to hear whether the first year is similar most places. I know I've heard complaints about Columbia as well. I've heard from several people who are a year ahead of me that the GRADUATE portion of Marquette is far superior to the first year. SO, we can all keep our fingers crossed!

Hi all! I am also applying to this program. My stats are:

3.27 undergrad GPA (I know not so great, but I was so young and immature back then. :crying2:)

4.0 in prereqs

GRE: 1310 (600V, 710Q) 5.5 in Writing

no professional background in healthcare

I'm a bit (or actually alot) nervous about the cost of tuition, but I guess it's just something that I will have to deal with as it comes.

Does anyone know when Columbia sends out their decisions? The website says Feburary but that seems rather late so I'm wondering if that's old information that hasn't been changed on the website? Thanks. The wait is making me extremely nervous!

It was February last year - I think I found out mid-February. Yeah, they don't leave you a lot of time, but it was one of the earliest responses I got from schools - others didn't come out until late Feb/early March.

I just checked - i got my acceptance on February 2nd, via Email.

Thank you for letting me know! I'm just sad to find out I am going to have to nervously wait until Feb! Are you are current Columbia student?

Hah! The waiting sucks, but the worst thing was we got an email from Judy Wolfe saying acceptance letters are posted, looked- I got in - super excited, then we get a second email like 5 minutes later saying there's been some errors in the letter, please disregard -so then we all had heart attacks thinking we were going to be unaccepted (especially because i could barely believe i got in in the first place!) and that we would have to wait until the next day for the final results, but then she emailed back again and said things were straightened out that night, so we didn't have to wait. It was awful tho! :)

No, i am not a Columbia student- i decided Marquette was a better fit... tho i still question that decision a lot. Oh well - good luck :)

Thanks for the insight.

My materials are all in, and now I just have to wait.

Johns Hopkins gives early decision notices by December 15, so I don't know if I could wait until February to hear back from Columbia. I know that my anxiety is useless, though, so I'll try to focus the energy on finishing up my pre-reqs with stellar grades.

Again, best of luck to all!

Mine are in too! I received my last letter of recommendation last night. Good luck everyone! By the way, is anyone applying to Pace CDP too? Have you heard anything (good or bad) about the program?

I'm applying to JHU, Pace and NYU in addition to Columbia.

As long as I get into one, and emerge with less than 100K on loans, i'll do my best to enjoy the (hectic) ride to nursehood!
