Columbia BSN/MSN ETP 2014

Published

I was surprised that there didn't seem to be a thread for this year's applicants to Columbia's ETP program. So I thought I would start one. The information session was today, but I wasn't able to go. :( I was hoping someone else went and would be able to post any admission statistics or tips for the personal statement they gave.

Got in for FNP. :) Congrats Everyone!

Hi all! I'm in for FNP. I've already started a similar program so I'm working with Columbia to see what (if anything) will transfer. I get in-state tuition here and the cost of Columbia is somewhat daunting... I love how accelerated it is and that we get a BSN on our way to our masters (my current program is just an MSN). I also like that they offer subspecialties!

Congrats everyone!

I know the first year is 9-5 or so class everyday, but does anyone have a better idea of what the masters portion looks like? I take it we don't have class everyday since they say you can work as an RN, but I don't really understand if it's just shorter hours or fewer days of the week etc.

Accepted to psych! I'm really nervous about moving to NYC though and just being on my own. I won't be able to make it to Visiting Day either which means I won't get to meet all you great people until orientation =/. Has anyone thought about housing yet?

My understanding is that it's not actually a BSN but a BS. My friend went through the program and exited after the BS. She said she's had no problem finding work but just wanted to note that to tororz :)

I am definitely beginning to think/freak out a little about housing haha especially cause may is not that far!

Thanks, I was not aware of that and it is very good to know!

That's really interesting, I didn't know that either. I wonder what the BS is in if it's not in nursing? I already have a BS in health science.

I mean if you look at their site it says you are awarded a BS/MS. I don't really understand. All I know is that in California there's a big stink about not having the BSN and that limiting chances for finding work in large hospitals. I am not terribly concerned bc I'm happy to work as a psych nurse in any setting and it doesn't have to be at a major hospital. But that doesn't really matter if you're going straight through and now working as RN while doing Masters? Anyhow, UCSF and Yale only award MS and clearly no one is struggling to find jobs after graduating from those programs?

Honestly my biggest fear is being prepared for that accelerated first year. I just watched the orientation video on the about page on the BS/MS and holy cow, it's been a while since I was in a classroom doing physiology. Yikes. I think I need to brush up.

@mentalhealthadvocate I just watched that video again this morning and I'm currently in A&P II...and it still seemed extremely intimidating.

However, admissions accepted us because they know the work load and based on our stats they feel we can complete their program as well as be successful in it. If they didn't think we could do it, we wouldn't be where we are!

I've heard these work loads are extremely difficult but forming study groups- and splitting up chapters to read amidst a group and sharing notes-- really makes these accelerated portions doable as well as adds a support system. (Not sure if I heard that on the CUSON video or some other direct entry open house-- everything is a bit of a blur at this point.)

Point being...this BS portion seems pretty intense but we can do it!

Hmmm, yes, what is the BS if not in nursing? and its not an MSN either? This is confusing to me....I definitely don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I am freaking out a teensey weensey bit about how to pay for this program...ideas/advice? I am terrified of private student loans.

Me too. Did someone say we need to fill out a 2013-2014 FAFSA as an undergrad since we start in the summer?
