I was surprised that there didn't seem to be a thread for this year's applicants to Columbia's ETP program. So I thought I would start one. The information session was today, but I wasn't able to go. I was hoping someone else went and would be able to post any admission statistics or tips for the personal statement they gave.
Yes, that is my understanding. if your first FAFSA was submitted successfully, then when you go in and change it, it will then submit that version as well. you will not be able to see it, but the schools will be able to see both. I submitted as 5th yr undergrad first, waited a few days, then changed it to 1st yr graduate. Now i have to go in and amend my taxes...ugh.
Hey guys, I got in ETP AGNP program and will be attending the visiting day! I am a senior at Cal and will be graduating on 5/17 (YAY). It takes at least a month for my school to reflect my degree on my transcript but my acceptance letter says I need to turn in an official transcript with a conferred degree by 5/28 to start the program. Im 100% sure that I will earn my BA degree on 5/17, it is just that my school takes time to process it. What should I do? Do any graduating seniors here run into this problem too? It would be really sad that I cannot study at columbia because of this. I am very stressed out, hope SON will understand this and be flexible. Any comments? Please help! *cry
I applied to a lot of schools and this group has by far the most active thread (maybe because of so many applicants), but more importantly the most supportive thread. Columbia wasn't my first choice, but between this thread and the facebook group, I'm starting to think more and more that it is! Having a lovely supportive cohort will go a long way! Thanks everyone!
I mean if you look at their site it says you are awarded a BS/MS. I don't really understand. All I know is that in California there's a big stink about not having the BSN and that limiting chances for finding work in large hospitals. I am not terribly concerned bc I'm happy to work as a psych nurse in any setting and it doesn't have to be at a major hospital. But that doesn't really matter if you're going straight through and now working as RN while doing Masters? Anyhow, UCSF and Yale only award MS and clearly no one is struggling to find jobs after graduating from those programs?Honestly my biggest fear is being prepared for that accelerated first year. I just watched the orientation video on the about page on the BS/MS and holy cow, it's been a while since I was in a classroom doing physiology. Yikes. I think I need to brush up.
I've been doing some research on this and I believe in the US a BS (in nursing) and BSN are considered the same for hospitals with magnet status. It really just varies whether the school is just a nursing school or if it's tied to a larger University. It should not affect a hospital's bid to get magnet status, that only specifies a bachelor/university degree in nursing. I read somewhere that it might have an impact if you want to travel abroad but I did not see anything to back it up.
Did anyone else apply for a subspecialty? How do we know if we were accepted into it?
you know, i'm curious about that too! when i was put on the waitlist, i wasn't told if there were separate waitlists for each specialty, or anything, but i'm surprised if those who got in weren't told if they got in for the specialty they applied? anyone else know?
The acceptance letter did say which specialty you were admitted to. You don't declare subspecialty until you begin the grad/NP portion of the program. I don't believe a separate application/admission is required since we did not have to declare it on the initial application. Subspecialty is small potatoes right now, just need to focus on getting into the right program and getting the basics down.
