UCHSC supply list?

Hi there,

You may have seen my post in the pre-nursing student forum about a wishlist for Christmas. Since I'm going to UCHSC in June, I thought I'd post here, too.

Does anyone know of a suppy list for the BSN program? Anything that I'm going to be absolutely required to have? Do they have a uniform or scrubs or anything? Will I be required to have a BP cuff and stethescope? Anything you can think of would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Doesn't the school give you guys a supply list? Most schools send that kind of info with their acceptance letters, or in response to your confirmation. If not, maybe your advisor @ CU could send you something. Good luck at school!

Often, the school has worked out discounts for Uniforms and Supplies at designated stores. Perhaps, the book store will have discounts for you at school.

Good luck to you.

Congrats on getting in at CU :) I'm starting at UCHSC in January. We just got our registration information in the mail this week and they don't have a very detailed list of needed supplies. For first semester we need a stethoscope, pen light, and scrubs (but for June start I don't think you'll go to clinicals until Fall sememster). You'll need black scrubs and a black polo shirt, all of which need to be embroidered (sp?) with the school logo. You can buy them at the school book store but a friend of mine in the program said they fit really weird, but you can buy from a local scrub shop and take them to campus to have logo put on. Other than that, the only other info I have so far is the list of books. We're supposed to get more details a few weeks before the semester starts at an all day orientation.

The things I put on my Christmas list are: steth, PDA, software for the PDA, first semester books, scrubs, a new backpack, Starbucks gift card, a night or two of free babysitting

PM me if you have questions, maybe I can help.

I am confused! I was told that no acceptance letters are mailed before March 2007 and yet some of you already know that you are starting at UCHSC in June 2007 or Jan 2008. Is that because all your prerequisites are completed or some other explanation?? Would appreciate any clarifications.

I applied under the early acceptance deadline, back in July, because I had all my prerequisites done. That way I was able to hear from them in November. For the regular deadline, I don't think they send out letters until March.

UCHSC has two deadlines and sends acceptance letters twice per year. For students that have all pre-reqs finished by the end of summer sememster there is an early acceptance deadline (line just line pointed that out) and those students are notified of acceptance in November. If you finish pre-reqs in fall or spring sememster, or are a summer applicant that didn't get an acceptance letter in November, you will receive a letter in March letting you know either way. Hope that makes sense :) It sounds good in my head! *lol*

Hey Ya'll!

Don't panick about the supplies you will need. I am currently a student at UCHSC and will graduate in May of this year. For the first summer the only supplies you will need are your books for class, a med dictionary (not required but I recommend it) a stethoscope, and a pen light. All of this can be purchased at the bookstore on the main campus at 9th and Colorado. You will not need scrubs etc. until fall semester at the earliest. The school/faculty will provide you with plenty of info about how to get your scrubs etc. A bit of advice-the scrubs do fit like crap but you can always just purchase the top (has the school logo on it) from the bookstore and get better fitting pants from anywhere else. They just have to be black, end of story. So don't worry. Just make sure you have a stethoscope and are ready to learn. Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

P.S. A calculator also comes in handy : )

A side note about the new January start, you'll need scrubs in the second 8 week block of the first semester. There is a short LTC clinical with Fundamentals and then Med/Surg starts summer semester and you'll have clinicals with that. January start is just a bit different than the June start that so many people are familiar with :)

I know its the school colors and all but I have to tell you it really freaks out some of the patients.

Some call us the "grim reapers" :) ... anyways, I also suggest not buying the scrub pants from the school, they are overpriced and fit horribly. The shop across the school on 9th avenue has some nice black scrub pants for around 15.00 and they are a lot more stylish. Also, at Colorado Mills they have cool "Dickies" scrubs.
