Colorado New grad with no interviews after searching since Aug 2013

U.S.A. Colorado

Hi Everyone!

I feel so completely and totally defeated. I recently graduated with my ADN in august 2013 and have a B.S. I worked as an LPN and as a CNA yet I cannot seem to find a job anywhere...hospital, home health, ltc, etc. I cannot even get an interview at all. Does anyone have any advice??? I'm from Colorado, but I am also looking in Iowa... and Central Washington.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm about to have a meltdown! :(

My advice is keep looking and applying. Don't give up! Maybe redo your resume and see if that will help. Since you have prior nursing experience (CNA and LPN) you have an advantage. Don't give up! The job market for nurses is brutal right now. Trust me we all feel the pinch. You may just have to work in an LTC until something better comes along. Good luck sugar, I'm sure you'll find work soon. It may not be what you wanted, but it's a start.

Thanks! I'm more than willing to do LTC or Home Health right now-- I am negotiable on just about anything/everything. I knew it would be hard but had no idea it would be this difficult. I was thinking about hiring a company to help reformat my resume. Maybe I'm missing something :-/. Thanks again!

I graduated with my BSN in May 2013, and am just now starting to get interviews with hospitals 6 months after graduation, though they are all outside of Colorado. I've submitted hundreds of applications, and my best advice is to just keep trying!! Eventually the responses will come. I know very well how frustrating and defeating it can feel. Some of my classmates were recently able to get jobs at a pediatric home health agency, so I agree that might be a good place to keep looking if you want to stay here.

have you tried Maxim healthcare and professional pediatric homecare? I know for sure they hire new grads.

Try Interim, or Pediatric Services of America, or even Bright Star. And, it's not you. Jobs for new grads are virtually non existent!

I am still a student but many of my classmates are currently CNAs. One has worked as a CNA on his unit for several years. He has been virtually guaranteed a nursing job on that unit when he passes his NCLEX. Cold contact hires are much more difficult that getting hired by someone that knows you and your work ethic. You may have to find a place that is willing to hire new nurses and put some CNA time in first at that facility to let them get to know you. I think it is OK to let them know you are looking for a RN job but are willing to put in the time that other people aren't.

Where in CO do you live? It seems to be difficult everywhere finding a nursing job. One friend in Denver worked as a CNA in a hospital, and got hired on there after nursing school. Another friend (also Denver) is working home health. Any my neighbor (we live in Northern CO), had to go the long way to his dream job. He graduated 2 or 3 years ago. Worked in a nursing home, then urgent care, before finally securing a job in an ER. Don't give up!
