Color of Littmann Classic II S.E.

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Published

I am starting nursing school and so excited to order my first stethoscope. I am torn between the ocean blue and the pearl pink. Does anyone have either of these? Do they look like the do in the pictures?

Also, I don't want to not be taken seriously if I get a pink one.. what do you guys think?

True...at the most, it's been a brief point of conversation when I see another nurse with a wacky-colored steth, but I don't think any different of her based on her steth color. Wait until you see some of the cloth covers that people place over them :)

That being said, it's still quite the decision, especially for a new nurse or nursing student (as the OP is). The big advantage to wacky steth colors is that they're less likely to wander off during clinicals. Everyone has the darker colors: black, navy, burgundy, purple...even with engraving on it, hospital staff sometimes just see the color at a distance and think it's theirs.

I lost my Littmann II SE steth during my move to California. I'm replacing it with the pearl pink--I'm not a pink fan, but I wanted something unique...and the turquoise with the rainbow head was a bit much (as well as more expensive). It's a good match to my backup steth, the GRX cardiology one which is a neon red.

One thing I will advise the OP on: if you get it engraved with your name, as tempting as it to do this DO NOT have it engraved with RN or LVN. You are not a nurse until you pass the NCLEX, and trust me, if nurses or your instructors saw that on your steth during class or clinicals, they will be quick to point that out to you. So just use your name or initials and get RN/LVN added on when you graduate, or you better keep that RN/LVN covered up with tape.

I have the breast cancer pink one and have had no problems. Only thing I don't like about it is that, because it's so light in color it scuffs a lot! Some of the scuff marks won't come off either :-(

Unless they are interested in stealing it.

Mine is light colored, too. I find that alcohol wipes remove the scuff marks.

I got the all black Cardio III because I figured it would be easy to spot on another students neck. Of course I almost lost mine due to my habit of when entering an isolation room I'm put my stethoscope in the drawer take out the disposable one and then swap when I got back so I wouldn't have to take mine in the room. Unfortunately I came out left it there then the patient came off isolation and the cart was removed. Luckily I found it before it went to central processing.

I did have a student borrow mine and tried not to return it even lying that she left it in her car and would bring it back later. I was like why is it in your car to begin with.

The OP has probably long decided...but my pearl pink Littmann arrived today and I was pleasantly surprised. It's not a cotton candy bright pink like I feared, but is a warmer deeper pink. It'll look great with black, navy and grey scrubs (which are the colors I predominantly wear).
