So I just got my acceptance a couple hours ago (weird how some of these schools send out the decision email in the evening)! Just wondering if anyone else is considering CNR, currently attends, has attended, or will definitely be attending in the Fall. I think at this point I'm deciding between CNR and Nassau. I like that with CNR I'd be able to finish my BSN in the same time frame (2 years) as getting an ADN from Nassau, and that I'd be able to apply for summer externships that seem to only accept applications from BSN students. However, the cost is throwing me off, and I'm not sure I'd be able to handle it. I already have ~60K in student loans. I did apply for financial aid, so I guess I'll have to wait until I hear from that decision as well. Is it worth the cost?
AHH, hard decision. But yeah, just wanted to know if there are any other CNR people on here.
Oo ok me too, im commuting from the same area. Commute is not that bad, just depends on when you have classes. Like I was driving back today at around 330 and there was medium traffic, but when I left at around 11 30am there was literally no traffic and a smooth ride. The only concern really is parking, there werent much spots left on the street or in the parking lot. Ive only seen one parking lot by the way, maybe there are others...hmm guess ill find out.
She told me that all their facilities are newly renovated and have a hospital set up for mock clinicals and lab. Before you go into an actual facility to practice clinical skills on patients, you do them in the lab classes. I registered for classes (Nurs Foundations Lec and Lab/Clinical, Dosage Calculations, Health Assessment Lec and Lab), so like 5 classes
As far as books, and supplies so said all would be discussed at the orientation, so she said not to buy any books because they might change depending on the professor.
There is also a background check and drug test that has to be completed before starting the program, and also CPR certification.
uhh oo there's a med math exam at the end of every semester, you have to get 90% or you go into a remedial class. If you fail after that class then you are not allowed to move onto the next nursing level classes.
I dont know if I missed anything lol. WE WENT OVER ALOT OF THINGS THIS AFTERNOON!
lol Feel free to ask me anything that comes to mind

Ok, that doesn't sound that bad. I'm hoping traffic isn't too bad in the morning. I'm hoping to have mostly morning classes since I work in the evenings, so we'll see how that goes. One nurse I work with that did the RN-BSN program there said traffic shouldn't be that bad going from LI/Queens to CNR in the mornings since more people would be going towards Manhattan, and not up to Bronx/Westchester, so I'm hoping that's actually true, haha.
The website says there are four parking lots on the main campus, so I'm hoping that once we find those, it won't be that bad.

Oh wow, and you're doing those classes during the summer, good luck! Must be exciting though that the start is so close for you...I can't wait for the Fall. When is your orientation?

Yeah I heard about that. I think that's pretty standard at all nursing schools from what I've seen. I'm just hoping we can use calculators (unlike on the TEAS), and I'm sure it won't be that bad once we learn it.

That was awesome, thanks a lot, very helpful. I'll definitely ask if anything comes to mind, and I'll probably ask how you how things are when you start in the summer, I'm very curious, haha. NOW I'm gonna submit my deposit today, I think I've officially decided I'm attending CNR!
I mainly have morning classes so I guess that is lucky in a way. Schedule is as follows:
Monday: Nurse Fund Clinical 8:30am-2:30pm Nurse Fund Lec 3-6:30pm
Tuesday: Nurse Fund Clinical 8:30a-2:30 Dosage Calculations 3:30-6:30
Wednesday: Nurse Fun Lec 8am-2pm Health Assessment Lec 2:30-5:30pm
Thursday: Health Assessment Lab 9am- 1pm Health Assessment Lec 2:30-5:30pm
Crazy Ass Schedule. Least I have off on Fridays. Ill defiantly let you know how that goes once I start haha.
Orientation is June 10th. That is where you hand in your health assessment from your doctor and other things etc etc.
Mine was reverse and I actually had to SEEK THEM out for my Financial Aid Package..never got one in the mail or anything.
The Acceptance Package was more like an Acceptance letter. It just basically stated the regular "congratulations....pay deposit by" type of thing. The other letter in there spoke on signing up to take CPR (ooo and by the way if you already have one just show a copy to health office and they will verify its ok--that way you dont have to pay to take another). The other letter is about background check and drug test. They use a specific company, they give you all the details when you register on when how to do that Uh the last one was about getting immunizations and physical from doctor and where to download the form for your doctor to type
OO and the date of the orientation. yours will probably be in August probably.

Thanks for the details, I look forward to hearing how the program is when you start!
I'm supposed to be going in to the nursing school this week to register for classes (hoping they allow us to take altered physiology I and pharmacology at the same time, along with fundamentals and health assessment, though I guess it's different for you as a second degree starting in the summer). Do you know if we're able to park in the campus parking lots as visitors? Or should I just find street parking? First time going to the school and area, so not sure what to expect.
Sorry not sure if you went there already BUT when you pull up to castle ave and you turn ibto the gate theres a security desk, just tell them your going to admissions and they will give you a pass, then you can just park in the parking lot. Let me know how it goes or how it went.
Ok thanks. I'm going in tomorrow. They said it takes about an hour for registration! Wonder why...did they give you any other info, forms, etc when you went for registration?
Just to update:
So I went to CNR on Friday to register for classes for the Fall. The campus seems nice, from the part of it I saw (I only went to Angela Hall and the registrar). I parked on the street, but did see at least one parking lot near Angela. The people I met from the nursing department were nice, very friendly. We talked about the graduation they just had, how Mariano Rivera was there, etc. Good vibes. The person I met with that registered me gave me advice, told me that first semester is probably the hardest since you're adjusting to nursing school, keep on top of pharmacology, etc. She said the program is tough, but you'll be a great nurse when you graduate, which is exactly what I want (a coworker of mine wanted me to go to his alma mater, said it would be a breeze for me, and he didn't understand that I want a rigorous program, lol). I'm loving it so far, we'll see how I feel once classes actually start. Think I made a good decision going for the BSN instead of ADN at another program (as much as I loved that other school).
Oh and she gave me a paper with instructions on the background check and drug test. Guess I should get this all done now so I don't have to worry about it later.
Also, for the Fall, I'm registered for Health Assessment and Lab, Foundations for Nursing Practice and Lab, Pharmacology and Lab (Dosage Calculations), and Transcultural Nursing. I wanted to take the HIV/AIDS course as an elective, but it's on a day that I have to work.
Commute was fine, took my about 30 mins with some traffic from LI (near Queens) by car. Definitely need to buy EZ Pass. I also need to figure out the best way to get from CNR to Manhattan...GPS had me take two toll bridges!
DNPDreams, just wondering how orientation went! Also, have you bought all your textbooks and supplies? I'm starting to buy some of the textbooks I see on the bookstore site, and I also noticed that for Fundamentals Lab you have to buy a supply bag or something from the bookstore...did you buy this? If so, what does it include?
Hope you're doing well!
OK so I was attempting to answer the private message that you sent me, but it just up and disappeared. Neven sure how to get bato ck it. Sorry Im so delayed. The summer schedule is NO FREAKING JOKE!! 3 exams a week and skills checks every Friday. My suggestion...just start reading now lol. Can you send me another private message??

Ok yeah, that's my hope, preferably 2 and not 2.5, haha. Some schools like Hunter and Pace are mandatory 3 years for the nursing curriculum for transfers, no exceptions. I don't think CNR is like that luckily.
Ok, interesting. Yeah, I haven't been to the campus yet. I'll look into one later this week, they have a couple.
From Long Island, near Queens. I have a car, so I don't think the commute is that bad.
Oh wow, that's pretty soon! When you got accepted, did they mail you info about supplies, textbooks, when to register, etc?
