College of New Rochelle Traditional BSN Fall 2014?

Congrats! I actually received my acceptance email today as well from CNR. I was also accepted to Lehman College but I must also take an examination to be accepted to the nursing program within Lehman which is probably the reason why I will choose to attend CNR instead.

Cost... 30k a yr at CNR compared to 6k a yr at Lehman... is easy to make a choice but I just graduated from SUNY WCC with my associates and I did not enjoy having to take the TEAS to get into the nursing program which only accepted 24 students for the fall '14 out of 260 applicants. (I was not one of those 24 :devil: ) I honestly do not want to have to battle my way to a chair in the nursing program at Lehman with no guarantee to get accepted before completing my bachelors. The rumors are that is just as rough at Lehman as it is at SUNY WCC when it comes to getting into the nursing program. And then what?! Have to pay anyways for an accelerated program since I have a worthless bachelors degree?!

Since you are already 60k in debt... I know you must review your choices closely. Getting an ADN at this point is a risky choice. Most hospitals are only hiring BSN RNs and is pushing ADNs to work at mostly nursing homes and have to go back to school for their BSN. I do not know the tuition cost at Nassau but if its anything over 30-40k by the time you finish... might as well attend CNR and get it over with. I am assuming if you have 60k in debt you may have all the pre reqs or close to it so you only have to do 2-2.5 years at CNR which would limit your costs to about 60k. 40k for an ADN or 60k for a BSN that opens lots of more doors for you.

Well if you do choose CNR... I hear it is a really independent learning enviroment. (coworkers and friends attended there) When it comes to clinicals they have lots of locations to offer and I believe their NCLEX passing rate is in the 50s. Something to think about:bored:... when comparing it to other schools.

Thanks. I wonder if the program can be completed in two years (4 semesters) if you transfer in all the sciences and liberal arts...

Yes you can. You can go on their website and compare the classes you have and don't have to sort of get an idea if you would be taking Nursing 1 on your first semester... I also believe you can take classes in the summer including the Nursing courses.

Yeah I did go on the site, but it doesn't show a breakdown as far as the nursing courses that should be taken together (and which semester of the program to take them in) and things like that, just a list of the nursing classes. Maybe I'll call tomorrow to find out.

I've taken all the liberal arts and sciences courses except math, which I'm doing over the summer.

@NYCGuy What school do you attend now? Im taking my last couple of pre reqs at nassau this summer. Price wise I mean Nassau is Wayy cheaper but its also not a BSN, so later you'd end up in a bridge program.

Yeah I'm at Nassau right now. Did you already sign up for the classes, just fyi if you need to take A&P or micro those classes are already full. I need to take algebra and trig, so I'm doing that over the summer.

I think I'm just gonna suck it up and go to CNR since it's BSN, I'll have an easier time getting an externship, and after I'm done I can just work and not think about going to school while working (for RN to BSN), as I'm doing right now.

I went to the open house and they gave me a break down of each of the tracks, but im not sure how to upload it onto to here. Ill try later.

I barely got into AP II and a nutrition class. I am taking Micro now so no issues with that. Yea defiantly. My mom works for VNSNY and they have summer externships and they are basically for BSN students. It will be worth it in the end. I am going to register for nursing classes tomorrow when I meet with the director.

Well I'd be a transfer into the regular undergrad BSN program. Individualized and Accelerated are the second degree programs, which I didn't apply to. But yeah, I hope it is 2 years!

So you went to an open house? How was it? Did you see the facilities for the nursing program? If so, how were they? Nassau has a new life science building so the nursing facilities are all new, which is nice, and I see that CNR says they have "modern laboratories and simulation rooms".

Also, was this just one of the regular open houses that I see them advertising on the website? If so, maybe I'll go to one later in the week.

Since you're taking those classes over the summer, when does the accelerated program start? Just curious. I took Nutrition (BIO 115-Human Bionutrition) last semester and finishing up A&P 2 right now at Nassau. They haven't listed profs for the summer yet, otherwise I'd give you advice if you have the same profs.

Well I am assuming most BSN programs are 4 years right? and first 2 is usually pre-reqs which you took most already, so im thinking the remaining classes--the nursing ones, should be 2 years, or 2.5 at the most. I think the only difference is that you cannot accelerate like the second degrees.

I received an email invite to the open house, so it was only about nursing. They split us into groups based on the program we were interested in. We werent given the opportunity to look at any facilities. It was more of a Q&A and we got to speak to the financial aid counselors. But I mean focused or not i think you should check it out. Not sure if you have been to the school yet, but its really small, a lot of trees, pretty secluded.

Where would you be commuting from?

The program starts July 7th. Its 5 consecutive semesters, so no breaks :dead:
