Has anyone applied for the ABSN for Summer 2017 ?

Did anyone receive financial aid package?

and yea believe them @slsu

I just submitted my application the beginning of this week. Now that the application is back up how long do you think it will take to hear from them?

For those that applied early-

Did you have an interview, or an exterance exam of some kind?

And how long before after you submitted your application did you get accepted?

I received a package in the mail yesterday, anyone else?

hey, so I applied to this program very early. I was actually admitted to the Spring start but switched to the summer program and I received that letter back in December. I was told at the time that I would get more information by April, but so far within the last 3 days I have received information about orientation, registration, etc. I didn't have an interview or any entrance exam- only the application, my prereq's and essay. Hope this helps.

Congrats on your acceptance! I actually ended up hearing from Ms. Bimbo a little bit after I posted this morning saying I got accepted. I put my deposit down and she said I will get a package in the mail soon.

@caseyiorio did you submit recommendation letters? Now that the application is back up I have been waiting for my recommendations to submit their letters. Did you send your unofficial transcript to Ms. Bimbo to expedite your app?

I had actually sent the official transcripts in about a month ago so she's had those and the day I was going to submit my application online it went down. So I've been waiting for it to go back up. I sent my letters of recommendations in a couple of days ago. I would give her a call. She's very nice. Just ask if she got them yet and when you can expect to hear.

Congrats to all who were accepted. I am currently in the accelerated program at CNR feel free to ask me any questions.

Hi Raspberry,

What are your feelings on the program thus far?

1) Do you feel the coursework & speed manageable?

2) Cost: what was the ultimate breakdown on cost for entire program, financial aid options, etc.

3) Do you like your clinical site?

4) Did you have the option of other programs, more expensive programs, what made you choose CNR?

Thank you so much!

Edit: let me add. I was also recently accepted, have paid my deposit, and begun working on all my pre-entrance requirements.

Does it weird anyone else out that the CNR is undergoing a review by the NYS Board of Education? What is that about and will we actually be enrolling in the Summer? What happens if they don't pass?

I spoke to Ms. Bimbo about that. CNR got a very large grant and decided to revamp the nursing program to make it more competitive with other programs in the area. She said she believes it will be accepted by the state and the program should start on time.

Great questions! Firstly, yes the program is undergoing changing (as Per Ms. Bimbo). They have submitted their changes to the nursing board for their approval and I believe until they are approved they are not allowed to post them publicly on the website.

1. Yes, its manageable but you must be dedicated and stay on top of your stuff otherwise its very difficult to pass.

2. The program is charged by credit ($753/credit) but I believe they have raised it to $783 per credit. Plus activity fees and such. The first semester was 10.5 credits and around $9,700, the second semester was 14 credits and about $11,400 and the third 12 credits and about $11,000. I would say about 98% of the class is paying for is via loans, I am using my savings. There are NO scholarships available for the second degree students.

3) Clinical sites are okay but not a wide variety. We've been to Montefiore, Bronx Lebanon, Wartburg, NYP Lawrence, and a few other places but the choices every semester are very limited especially for the accelerated students since we travel as a cohort.

Also, unlike the regular program, you have no choice in professors so learn to like the ones you have.

4) Yes, I got accepted into a few other schools but chose CNR because it was close and less expensive than the other programs and had a decent NCLEX pass rate.

The school is very disorganized so you have to be on top of everything you need to get done. Ms. Bimbo is really great at keeping in touch.

Heres a quick breakdown. The program is 18 months. The summer was 6 weeks and the fall and spring semester are 15 weeks, this coming summer is 10 weeks and the last semester in the fall is 15 weeks.

In the summer it was 6 weeks and we took pharmacology, dosage calculation, foundations of nursing ,foundations of nursing clinical, health assessment and health assessment lab. IT WAS INSANE. We had 4-5 exams everyday. It was difficult because we were in class 5 days a week (including clinical) for most of the day so as soon as you got out of class you had to run home to study. You have to get a 90 average on dosage calculation in order to pass that class and Pharm(because they are co-requisites). Every semester you will be required to take a dosage exam and pass with a 90 before you are allowed to enroll for the following clinical semester.

Med surg is where the real work comes in. Yes, its difficult but doable. You just have to be dedicated and commit your life to studying.

Passing is a 76.5 for all courses. For courses that have clinicals you have to get a 76.5 on the lecture portion (lecture exams) before they average in your work from your clinical assignments. If you fail the clinical you fail the lecture and if you fail the lecture you fail the clinical and will be required to retake both, as they are co-requisites.

We started off as 50 ppl and now we are 35.

At the end of the program you will be required to take a cumulative HESI where you have to score a minimum score to be able to have the dean sign off on your graduation and allow you to sit for the NCLEX. If you don't pass you'll have to take a 5 week course and take the test again. This HESI must be passed before you are allowed to graduate and sit for the NCLEX.

Hope this was helpful. Will happily answer any other questions you have.
