Nursing Students School Programs

Hi good people, I've applied to CNR for this fall. Is there anyone who has applied too? When will applicants start knowing their fate? I'm restless lol.

Good day,

I applied to CNR for the fall and received my decision letter a few weeks back. When did you apply?

Hi Shonta, i applied in the first week of May. I'm worried because i feel i applied late :( . When did you apply?

I applied two semesters ago but I kept postponing my application because I didn't feel prepared enough for the TEAS. After finally completing the exam I actually brought my results in personally to complete my package. I received an email decision the next week and the official package in snail mail the week after.

If it is not to much trouble, I suggest that you go up there personally because they never answer the phone.

Oh ok. The problem is i don't have my prerequisites. Im hoping I would get admitted and be made to take them at cnr before the main nursing program. They called me and suggested i apply as a 2nd degree appliant because i already have a degree in Arts. Do I still have a chance? Is it possible I'll get in and take my prerequisites? My head is all over the place lol.

Thanks for your time shonta. And yes they never answer the phone so i can ask them all these questions.

hello hserwaa, I am also a transfer student from WCC to CNR. I applied in mid march and got my acceptance email early april, and the acceptance packet in the mail a week later. I have all the prerequisites except for computer applications, statistics and another liberal arts elective. I just finished my health forms today, I should get a health clearance letter soon. They emailed me that I am qualified to start clinicals in fall. I haven't received any mail from them as to what else to do to complete the admission process. I plan on traveling outside the country in july and be back before orientation in September. I want to finish with the admission process before buying my plane ticket but the process seems to be at a standstill, and no one answers the phone when the receptionist transfers my call. it can be frustrating. I don't have a first degree so I am doing the generic.

is anyone else here doing the traditional in fall? Someone told me I need a CPR certification but i'm not sure which cpr class to take and whether they want American hearts association or American red cross association. Has anyone accepted for fall traditional program registered for class yet? Did assign you a clinical day? it can be frustrating.

I had applied to Bronx community too and received an acceptance email yesterday. Im seriously thinking abt pursuing them instead. Any information regarding CNR's admission process will be very helpful.

Hserwaa, where will you be commuting from if you don't mind me asking? I don't drive and will be commuting via public transportation from yonkers.

Honestly, CNR is a very expensive school which is another why I chose to postpone my application. I wanted to complete as many prerequisites at a more affordable school before going there for Nursing. I don't know your financial situation, and I'm not asking but I just want you to keep that in mind. I have a friend who is in the second degree nursing program. As you probably already know, you have to have a bachelor's degree in another area to qualify. That may be a better option for you because you may complete it earlier. It is an accelerated program and I don't know how you feel about that. Yes you can still get in and take your prerequisites. Take a deep breath and try to stay positive. I can understand that your head can be all over the place because I was in your shoes not to long ago. Everything will work out for your benefit!!

I'm a current CNR student, just finished my first year in the program. It sounds like you've done everything you need to do. The only thing is that you may have to go in to register for courses at some point in the summer (they'll let you know when). They do this initial registration in person (after that you do it on your own). Email the person that emailed you and let them know that you have travel plans and when this can be done.

For the first semester, there is only one clinical day (I believe it's usually Tuesday). For the first half of the semester you'll be in the lab. For the second half, you'll be in a nursing home or rehab facility. You should also note that if you see an afternoon clinical/lab day, that will only be in the afternoon for the lab portion of the course. Once you switch to the clinical rotation, you'll be in the morning, 7am, with everyone else.

You should take the American Heart Association course, titled "Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers" (BLS). I believe the school has courses on campus, but you can do this on your own, just look for the class in your area (I've done it with "CPR123" for years now).

Feel free to ask me any questions.

Hey!!! I have been accepted to CNR for the fall via the traditional track also. I have not yet registered for classes nor have I gotten my assigned clinical day. I am actually transferring from BCC and I can tell you from first hand experience that the nursing program at my school is extremely disorganized and frankly should be looked at as a last resort. Hence, why I am transferring to complete my nursing degree else where. I have had MULTIPLE biology professors in my school tell me that pursing nursing at my school was not a good idea and that I should explore other avenues. I think that speaks volumes. Besides that, you just have to weigh your options. BCC offers and associates degree which would be completed in almost the same amount of time that it would take to get your bachelors at CNR. Ultimately it is your decision, and I can only speak of my experience. However, this is just food for thought.

Good day! I hope you don't mind me asking you a few questions. What is your overall opinion on the nursing program at CNR and why?!
