Hi everyone!
I have been looking around the site for info on the College of New Rochelle Accelerated program and there doesn't seem to be too many people applying or in the program.
If anyone has any information about this program (how competitive it is, if it is any good, any other relevant info) it would be greatly appreciated! :)
The costs of textbooks depend on what courses you are taking. If you go to efollet.com, look up the school and you can type in your courses to get the name and cost of the text books you will need. The bookstore prices are really high, so you may be able to find cheaper prices on other websites.
Hi Everyone,I am at the stage where I am waiting for them to get all of my documents before May 8, 2009. I am trying to get into the Second Degree Individual Program because I missed the deadline for the June, 2009 program.
I have my BA in Business Administration and I had started my Masters in MBA and decided to change curriculum to go into Nursing. I started out as a Medical Assistant attending Mandl Allied Health College, where I took the MA Certification and the Phlebotomy Certification exam to become registered as a Medical Assistant and a Phlebotomy Technician.
I am wondering about this school, and for those of you who have already started and have not yet mentioned whether or not the first semester is going to be hard, please give a little insight on what is to be expected in my very first semester. What are the obsticles to be face getting my financial aid taken care of and getting my books and vouchers. Do you wear uniforms to school or regular clothes? Do we have to purchase your equipment now or later?
BB,
Make sure to follow up with them to ensure they have received all of your materials.
I previously posted that I do not find the courses to be very difficult, but it depends on your background. I am scientifically and mathematically inclined, having taken upper levels of chemistry and calculus for my first degree, so I do not find the current coursework difficult by any measure. If you have the ability to think logically and the know how to prioritize tasks by importance, you should be fine for Foundations of Nursing and the associated clinical assignments. Health assessment incorporates your understanding of human anatomy and physiology to physically examine the human body. There is some memorization required to ace that course. Pharmacology is straight up memorization. You will need to constantly study for this course to ace it. Dosage calculations is not difficult, if you are good with math. Transcultural Nursing is an easy course if you are interested in exploring different cultures as they relate to nursing. All in all, it is definitely feasible to pull a 4.0 if you are taking these courses upon matriculation to the individualized program. By the way, do not let the 65 page syllabus that you receive in one of your courses overwhelm you lol.
In regards to Financial Aid, you just need to go to the office and sit down with one of the counselors as soon as you decide to matriculate. There are several forms you must fill out. It is not as simple as just completing the FAFSA online. If you will be expecting a refund check to cover your living and other expenses, you may have to wait months to receive this check, so I would make alternate arrangements to cover these costs. I received one of my checks in April, less than a month before the end of the semester!
We only wear uniforms to clinicals, which started in the second half of the semester. During orientation, they will tell you all about what you need, when you need it, and where you can get it. They will require you to purchase an equipment bag (about $85 from the bookstore). I do not think you will need the bag until about the second or third week of classes, but the instructor will let you know. You can get your textbooks from wherever, you are not obligated to purchase them from the bookstore.
Im sure you did bump to get your question answered, and I am happy you received your answer so fast. In any event, I am not your age, and I refuse to debate with a minor who is young enough to be my daughter. I just felt as though I was waiting in line and just maybe someone out there may have wanted to know what I was asking to. We all know that Nursing books are very expensive, find a friend, utilize the copy machine and library and you should save a look of money on books.
BB find sometimg else to do other than pick on "minors." My convo with you is done, you can contiunue on your own since it gives you pleasure. Good luck on your future endavors. Hopefully you will stop waisting time being so negative and tracking everything I say. God bless, and good luck everyone! Now to resume the count down.
thank you so much for everything, i just found out today that all my documents have been received, and on that i can stop worrying. connie just told me that my file is ready for review.
i guess now is the time i should start biting my nails. i took all of your information and researched it, except for the 65 page syllabus, which sounds pretty scary for someone who is not organized.
wish me luck...........

bump for responses to the above post. If anyone attending to give a $ amount on how much textbooks cost for the entire program, that would be great. Even though it's 5-7 days until letters are in the mail, I would like to know.
