College Network vs. Rue vs. Excelsior

What would stop someone from going directly through Excelsior rather than through Rue or College Network? Does Excelsior offer the prereqs along with everything else? I am possibly signing with College Network on Monday for their LPN to ASN, but I am wondering if just going through Excelsior would be better. I was going to go for BSN, but the rep told me that ASN would be better for coming straight from an LPN. So, If anyone has any suggestions, I welcome them. Thanks!:)

Well, I guess I am going to go with the College Network. I know I have the discipline to complete the work and since I eventually want to go into advanced practice nursing it is worth something to achieve the BSN in the same time I would have gotten the ASN, what with the wait list time. Plus, I know the BSN credits will transfer for an MSN degree. So, I guess that this will be the best (least bad?) option. Hope so at least!

It is working for me! I've been using the College Network materials to challenge the Excelsior Nursing Exams with GREAT SUCCESS! I've taken seven exams and have earned five "A"s and two "B"s. I would recommend this study guide plan to anyone who is ready for it and is disciplined enough to follow through with it.

smat1, no offense, but all your posts are supporting TCN. You said that you have passed several tests, but there are no post regarding exams, supporting other people, asking advise, etc. Only "I like College Network". You are not working for them, are you? :)

I have read before that people who join, then post only once or twice in support of TCN, are most likely employees of TCN. This comes to mind in this case.

No, I'm not an employee of the College Network. Never have been and never will be. I'm a distant student in Excelsior's nursing program and use the College Network Materials. . . .this is only the second post for me, since I've just joined allnurses. . .

I myself have used the college network to pass my last 2 gen ed courses with Excelsior.... The last one I took was micro and I made a "B"... But I used, used college network study guides, from a friend... I would never spend $5000... Heck no!!!! I also followed ec study guide, and brought ec practice test...

Does anyone have experience with the Excelsior College? Is it a repitiable program? Did you have any problems getting hired as an RN? Did they question you on the school you went to? I am trying to figure out if I want to do this online program through Excelsior or just go to local college. Any help/ feedback would be appriciated.

Excelsior College should be your plan B. One should attend a local brick and mortar program if at all possible because of the ease and advisability of completing a clinical component. There is a lot of risk involved with a distance program that is essentially an examination only program. Many people do not successfully pass the clinical performance examination at the end of the EC program, making all of their effort a waste. EC nursing exams are not typically accepted in other nursing programs. A lot of money can be wasted taking the CPNE three times and failing. So, one should keep EC on the back burner as Plan B. It is an avenue of last resort for those who get sidetracked by life circumstances from completing a traditional nursing program.

Many, many posts and threads concerning the EC program can be found in the distance learning forum. The EC program is widely accepted by employers. One does need to check if their state has further requirements for licensure or in the case of MD and CA, does not license graduates. CA states that a case by case basis is used to evaluate whether or not the state will issue an RN license to an EC graduate, a reversal of their attitude prior to Dec. 2003.

I signed up with College Network because I like their textbook format. I need as much help passing these exams as I can. I am not ashamed to say this, I need smaller chapter with language that is easily understood. After working 8hrs and caring for my family, my brains can only absorb so much. I don't feel intimidated by these textbooks and since I am relaxed, I know I retain more. Thats my take on it, Good Luck!

I also like the fact I dont' have to treasure hunt for various manuals. I needed a package deal. I use my time for studying and it seems today answering blogs! LOLL!!

i met with CN this morning. and it all seemed pretty good. i have done research on a lot of schools, this one seems the best. but now i am reading sooo many negative blogs. im confused now. and what is excelsior and how is it different from CN? I live in CA so I know that makes a difference too. any responses would really help.thanks:)
