College Network vs. Rue vs. Excelsior

Published

What would stop someone from going directly through Excelsior rather than through Rue or College Network? Does Excelsior offer the prereqs along with everything else? I am possibly signing with College Network on Monday for their LPN to ASN, but I am wondering if just going through Excelsior would be better. I was going to go for BSN, but the rep told me that ASN would be better for coming straight from an LPN. So, If anyone has any suggestions, I welcome them. Thanks!:)

No, the wait list is at the schools in my area due to a drop in nursing instructors. I've already signed up with The College Network for the courses and using Excelsior for exams only. I've been using them for a few months now and have had no problems. It will save me 2 years of waiting for the schools in my area, it's over half the cost, even using financial aid and pell grants, and I did tons of research and talked with them as well as Excelsior for months before making my decision. Each person's situations are different and it was best for me and it's working. A lot of changes have been made with The College Network and I feel I'm in the right place for furthering my career. Thanks for the advice, but I made the best decision for me.

They have also just changed their program so all exams are taken in your own home, provided you have a web cam so they can watch you. They just started that, so that keeps me from travelling an hour away to take exams, with the exception of state boards.

Really? I've heard nothing about this; please find me this information on EC's website. As far as I know, all exams are still done through Pearson Vue. Have you taken an exam like this already?

Huh??? Not true.

I could send you the info but that would be against college rules. Sorry you don't believe me, but I've got better things to do right now than to keep explaining. I'm happy and that's all that matters.

I am requesting that you clarify your statement in the interest of keeping information accurate on these forums. Are you saying that Excelsior College, as part of the ADN program, will allow you to take exams via webcam? This is not a new concept (there are programs that do this, true), but this would be a major change for EC. In the interest of accuracy, please clarify. And this information would, in no way, violate any college rules. I'm an EC ADN grad as well as an EC MSN student, so I am familiar with the school's academic honesty policies.

If you're happy with TCN, more power to you. You're going to end up paying a lot of extra money using TCN, but I always say the best revenge on TCN is success in the program. ;)

It's entirely possible TCN is allowing students to take the ACADEMIC tests on webcam but I'm pretty sure the Excelsior NURSING tests have to be taken at an approved Pearson Vue center. Moomoo would not be the first person TCN sales people have misled.

The academic tests are usually through CLEP or similar, though ... TCN awards zero credits, so they have no stake in any test, as far as I know. Still hoping for clarification for the sake of accuracy...

Hmm..I have a hard time believing that the only allowable testing site Pearson Vue: who takes your picture, checks your finger print, checks your palm print, makes you lock up everything in a locker besides your ID, escorts you into the room as well as out, watchs your exam on a TV and fingerprints, palm prints and checks you picture ID on the way out of the exam would approve a simple Web cam...But who knows....:) BTW I have been an RN for just over a month(!!!) graduated from Excelsior and it cost me about $15.00 per disc that I bought on EBay for Lisa Arrends..Didn't need all the College Network and Rue material...
