College Network?

Published

Alrighty, so I have read quite a few post.... sooo many. Anywho, I know that I want to go through College Network because I like the way it is set up, I like the materials and I like having an advice line :-) For me the price is way cheaper then what I was considering so hey I'm cool. So with that being said, all I really want to hear feedback on is if you have gone through their network and if their guides were helpful and prepared you for the test and if there was any problems going form TCN to Excelsior.

Yes I do know it is not a college, just a publisher and the classes are counted as test outs. I only have to gen eds' so it really works out for me, and I can start now while I'm in my last 90 days of LPN school, and be doing the RN classes right after I'm done so it works out better for me then going straight through excelsior cause I couldn't enroll anyway until I have my LPN. But I digress, so yes please no flames about how I'm an idiot or what not, I just want the honest experience of people who have either gone through them (or another) or used their material and what they thought.

I signed up today, and because it's 3 business days I have till Wednesday to cancel, which I know I won't because I am far to lazy to do all the crap they handle on my own, lol :yeah: anywho so thank you guys

I bought a couple of used TCN study guides on ebay and did not find them to be helpful.

What did you use that you did find helpful?

I used SG 101 and liked them but still found it better for me to do the reading in the texts also, as a background, like I would for a regular class. Lots of people only use study guides and don't take the time to do the textbook reading. I can see that if they want to just get through the tests. It is very possible to pass without doing a very thorough job of reading and study.

Well I will very much so have different sources as well, just wanted the study guides as a layout for me. The difference between this and straight through was not that much (for me at least), and the whole brick and mortar thing will not be an option; CC's way to long of a wait, and other schools not national accrediation and a whole lot more, yikes, almost moved to Idaho to do Carrington LPN to RN for 25,000.... :uhoh3: sweet niblets!

So do you have any study groups online you know of?? I saw some people post something about yahoo groups?

The yahoo groups may be of some use. You can post questions and there are some members who are good about coming back with answers, just like on this site. You also might want to check out the websites of the people who do CPNE workshops. To some extent, they offer assistance in some cases or they sell study materials. And there is Robs CPNE site. He sells CDs (or downloads) of how to do the PCS and lab stations for the CPNE itself. He has also gone into some teaching of the care planning aspect. I would start with study group 101 materials first. That is where you will get a lot of bang for your buck. And another source: Flashcards: The world's largest online library of printable flash cards.

I am with TCN.

It isn't necessary no, but at the same time I am paying for it so I am using it.

The study guides aren't spectacular, but they do help me get started when I get stuck.

I bought a SG101 and its got dates from '08 and '09 on them, so it isn't new either. The quizzes are nice though.

The best, most sound advice for studying is the content outlines and recommended textbook reading that Excelsior provides you- my best grade came from that. It is after all, Excelsior College and they know what they want.

Do I wish I had the $$ I'm spending with TCN? Heck Yes. But it is a done deal, so I use every resource they have.

If your still in LPN school, then u can use your books from school. As you stated, you can't sign up with Excelsior yet, but you can take 2 exams and general exams without being registered. I signed up with them while in LPN school, and regret the extra bills.

Hi srfjesusppl,

How are you doing so far in the tcn program? Have you taken your first exam yet? Just noticed you hadn't posted on this thread for a while -- :)

Shalom,

and yes I have taken a few tests! I passed Sociology and Pschololgy!! I tried to take the Pschy test around the holiday's and couldn't finish it. I found that everything on the tests were in my manuals..so..that was okay. Did I study enough?!..NO!! To be honest with you I did not. I SHOULD HAVE. But I guess I ike inflicting pain on myself! loll. I am planning on taking Intro to World Religions in a few weeks AND General Biology...the 6 hour courses! I hear that Intro to World Religions is NOT a walk in the park and I have ordered a supplemental book called "The History of the World's Religions" by David Ross I believe. Got it for 6 bucks used! Reg. price $80 something. BELIEVE E, I AM STUDYING IN EARNEST NOW!! I don't like that I have to wait for my books so long because I am taking the tests a bit faster than some I guess. But I do use the online pre-tests and interactive course support. I am really cramming here. But so far so good!

Blessings,

Sharon Harris (future RN)

Distance learning is good you can do other work while learning some exams.

Did you ever get modules? I just bought some used. How are you doing?
